The short answer is “yes, this is an all volunteer activity” and “no, gas money, etc, is not reimbursed”. You are fed at the pit, and the club puts on regular bbq/shrimp/burger & beer things. That said this is the long answer. Here's a little information about Mag7. I would invite you to take a look at our website at http://www.Mag7race.com. If you want more info, let me know and I will send you a scan of two articles Dirt Sports magazine wrote about us recently. We are a pit club supporting SCORE and NORRA racers. We also do a number of fun runs, charity events, etc. We have been around since 1967. Our organization pre-dates SCORE by a few years. We are a not-for-profit club. This is a hobby. We do our best to cover expenses of the club; this is not a "paying thing". However it makes a weekend of racing affordable. Driving your own vehicle (gas, Mexico insurance, etc.), a three-day Baja race can be kept under a couple hundred bucks. It also helps folks get started in Baja. It’s intimidating when a spectator contemplates going for the first time. Where do I go? Where do I stay? Is travel in Baja safe? That was me awhile back. My son and I started as the result of a chance meeting with a Mag7 member. We made the trip from Texas, had a wonderful time and have been going ever since. Typically we service 20-50 vehicles of all classes (depending on the location, size and popularity of the race). These are mainly "privateers" (racers who have the capability to field a vehicle, but do not have a large support team). More than anything (besides the race), it’s a little adventure, a little roughing it, good times and the camaraderie. I have never heard of anyone having a bad trip down.
