HAMMERS
Means Lake via Boone Road

Coming from the 15 freeway on the 18, at the stop sign (18/247) in Lucerne Valley, it's 24.4 miles to Boone Road.

At about 19 miles from that stop sign, you'll start down a long straight hill (will be able to see Means Lake in the distance on left). After long flat straight stretch, just before a sweeping right hand curve, you'll find Boone Rd and go left.
If you hit that curve, you've passed it.
Big BLM sign on right, but comes up fast.
If you pass it, be cautious turning around on the very soft sandy
shoulders.

From Yucca Valley (East)

From Yucca Valley on 247, it’s 20 miles to Boone road.
Boone Road WILL BE EASY TO MISS !!!! (just at the end of a downhill sweeper to the left) , BLM sign on the left--- Turn right---- you can see the lakebed/encampment from the hiway---- @4 miles on the gravel/dirt road.

I'm trying to figure out if heading to Barstow then through Lucerne will bw faster than cutting from 40 to 29 Palms and coming up that way.

Is there just one entrance or are there multiples? I'm definitely in to get a spot saved and meet up with you guys! My business partner also may be attending, he's picking up a new 2012 Jeep Rubicon this weekend. Is there cell phone service out there?[/quote]

Technically yes...Bessimer mine road runs right into hammer town but it is the desert haha...as already said cell service is sketchy I have sprint and its semi decent, verizon and att are about the same. I will post up my plans once i nail things down I need to deconflict some things at work but I plan on heading out Wednesday morning. If we dont already have a compund set up I will caution tape off an area for us.

I concur with Tony, cutting through 29 palms should be the faster way for you coming in from barstow on 247 takes you out pretty far.

Oh and for anyone thats never been down bessimer the road in is pretty rough, there are some alternate lines to the left that are much smoother if your towing. The traffic coming in and out is pretty heavy all week and last year they were enforcing the 25mph speed limits on bessimer.

There will be concessions in Hammer town ie food/drink but outside of that the closest stores are either lucerne or yucca.....both 20 miles away. On the yucca valley side there are two small markets near landers that have gas and basic markets Hero's being the better of the two.

Philo, definitely take the 10 to yucca valley to 247 to Boone Rd that will have a large BLM sign on left side of 247. Boone comes up fast on the right when dropping down gentle left hand turn on 247 as you drop into first long straight stretch of 247 since leaving Yucca Valley.

Bessimer Mine road will take you out to NW portions of the KOH course, but is a good haul to Means Dry lakebed or Hammertown from there. Better to use Boone rd.

I think we are starting one haha...If your willing we can meet up out there Wednesday...I can only haul about 2 nights of firewood so camping with other folks would be good. I should have my time off work firmed up this week. I may be doing some pit support for the 4454 car again this year too.

It's a long haul from Bessimer to Boone if you are in a lowered Mazda, in a go fast Bronco it's a hop skip and a jump away in the dirt, just head north on Bessimer rd a few miles from the lake bed to the old Lucerne A course, take the course east a few miles then on your right (south) a mile or so down will be Backdoor. If you have a GPS just get a few KOH coordinates and a Lucerne course coordinates from PCI's website.

Oh yeah! Once you are due north of Backdoor, resist the urge to bushwack straight North, the desert is horrible though there, lots of erosion and what not, makes for very slow moving. Go past it a little bit and there should be a trail that connect up to your right and heads south towards the lake bed. From there right before the lake bed itself you should link up to a trail again your your right heading Northwest (that's to back door) everything to your left (East of the lake bed) are the rest of the hammer trails.

I hope that all makes sense. Have fun out there! The desert is really fun and fast though those sections!
