2012 BajaHID III Excursion El Oasis Donations
All,
I order to more closely coordinate our donations to El Oasis, I thought we should list out what each of us plans to bring so we don't duplicate our donations and to help everyone decide what they want to give. So, I've taken Chris' list of needs for the kids at El Oasis and annotated it with what I've gotten thus far.
**Edit** Our goal this year is to collect if not all, but as many of the items that Danny has provided us on this list. So, please take the time and review the list and start collecting items. I'd also suggest that donations are not isolated to just those who are going on the trip. If you feel that you'd like to donate and can't make the trip, please let us know and we can take your donations down for you.

For those interested in donating to the El Oasis Orphanage, here is a helpful list of items the kids at the orphanage can use:
List of shoe sizes and numbers need:
Girls Shoes
size 1 US (1)
size 2 US (2)
size 3 US (1)
size 3 US 1/2 (1)
size 5 US 1/2 (1)
size 6 US (4)
size 6 1/2 US (2)
size 7 US (1)
size 8 US (2)
Boys Shoes
size 12 small kids (2)
size 2 1/2 US (1)
size 3 US (1)
size 3 1/2 US (1)
size 4 US (1)
size 5 US (1)
size 6 US (2)
size 6 1/2 US (1)
size 7 US (1)
For those of you interested in picking up a pair shoes, I would recommend stopping by Big 5 Sporting Goods. They always have very inexpensive tennis shoes. If you do buy a pair, please let me know which size so I can keep the shoe list updated.
List of general needs:
bedding sets (twin sizes)
reams of 10" x 8" printer paper
pencils and pens
rulers
folders
flash drivers (1-5 gigabytes) - bajaf250, 25 2GB flash drives
List of monthly food and grocery items:
4 boxes of spaguetti
16 packages of salt
4 bottles (20 lts) oil
8 jars of peanut butter
28 packages of sanitary napkins
4 jars of ketchup
12 packages of shoe polish
4 jugs (20 lts) laundry detergent
4 jugs (20 lts) dish detergent
12 bottles of hair gel
12 bottles of body cream
40 bottles of shampoo
40 bottles of hair conditioner
40 units of deoderants
10 (package of 8) bath soap
20 units of toothpaste - Tony TCM GLX
Please don't feel if you choose one item you have to buy the number of those items noted above. If you can even bring one of one item on the list that really does help. Every little bit helps.
El Oasis will also be accepting new and used clothing. Last year Danny (director of El Oasis) called me and commented who happy all of the kids were at all the new clothes they received. Again ages range from 5 years old to 16 years old for those of you donating clothes.
As much as we all love to see kids enjoy new toys, El Oasis asked us to please refrain from donating toys as the kids are really in need of the basic items above.

B250, is El Oasis the orphanage in San Vicente that we hear so much about or is it in Ensenada?
I have access to lots of shoes and clothes through our local Salvation army.
It is all clean, good condition, excess stuff that they are happy to have me bring to baja. Proud to participate and thanks for ramrodding this!

Michael, either works. You can make your check payable to El Oasis Orphanage or you can pick one of two items off the list of items this kids need. Thanks for helping out.guard wrote:Is cold hard cash accepted or are tangible goods preferred?

For those of you who are interested in donating money to the El Oasis orphanage, El Oasis is part of the International Children's Care (www.forhiskids.org), if you bring a check with you to the run made out to El Oasis Orphanage, you will receive via email or mail a receipt for use as a tax deduction.
Lets get together and help these kids! We did awesome last year, lets beat our record on donations. Remember, used and new clothes is welcomed as well as the items on the list.
Feel free to post here if you have any questions or pm if you wish. Thank you.

Re: 2012 BajaHID III Excursion El Oasis Donations
All,
Now's the time we all need to really put a push on gathering up as much of, and as many of the items that are so sorely needed down at the El Oasis Orphanage. This is our opportunity to give back to our neighbor and host country that we all so much enjoy. Please take just a few minuted and read through the 'NEEDS' list and take some time and just a little money and pick up some of those items and Danny really needs for the kids.
As you can see, Buck put the call out to the folks in his office and they really came through... those guys really pitched in... MANY THANKS BUCK and friends! What a great effort!
LET US MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIVES... please give.

Re: 2012 BajaHID III Excursion El Oasis Donations
Thanks a million Buck and Tom. Awesome to see that our run will not only include a great run amongst friends but will also help a good cause, the El Oasis Orphanage.
I will be bringing down a donation in the amount of $200.00 to go towards helping El Oasis buy the supplies they need. If you do not have time to go shopping, please give a little. It is tax deductible in the US and any little counts. $5, $10 or more. Whatever you can afford would be much appreciated. Lets break our cash record of $500 from last year!
Thank you and see you all in a few weeks.
Chris
