Baja Bound!!
Leaving in the AM. This is the itinerary...just in case nobody hears from me for a while...as if that's unusual.
- Crossing at Tecate around 8:00am Sat
- Taking the Compadre truck trail toward Ojos Negros.
- Hwy 3 down to Valle de Trinidad then out to Mike's Sky Rancho
- Sunday: B500 course all the way up to Santo Tomas...I think? Hehe.
- Estero Beach Sunday night.
- Crossing back to the homeland at Otay most likely, 12:00-14:00 Monday.
See y'all soon.

Noticed it was pretty quiet on this board about this trip. Have fun.

We ran a section of the 2010 B500 course from Mike's over to San Vincente. It was a mix of super fun and fast loamy terrain, to KOH type crawling, to Pike's Peak style roads with scary drop offs and some of the gnarliest washboard I've ever seen. The course looked like a tire hadn't touched it since the race. It's safe to say everyone puckered up at least a couple times.

Black Betty getting clean. So awesome having a car wash available to get the muck off before crossing the boarder.

There wasn't a lot of carnage, but here's the short list: Jim blew a coolant line before we crossed the border and had electrical issues plaguing him the entire trip. Chris lost a battery and I believe an alternator. Still not resolved and ended up getting towed back across the border. Michael, Buck and I all had fender mounts pop loose. Tony had a hood pin mount crack. Fortunately we were able to find a welder in Valle de Trinidad to fix us up. Super nice guy. Lastly, I had a rear axle bearing let loose just as we were hitting the road home.

We all know that Dawn does all the work on Jim's Ranger now.

I was fortunate to find a good mechanic in Ensenada back in 2009 when I broke a steering box. I've been back to this shop no less than half a dozen times since and they've always come through. Carmen and I were very saddened to learn that the original owner passed away just a couple months ago. His young son, who has actually done most of the diagnostics and repairs for me in the past, has assumed ownership of the shop. He is a US trained ASE certified mechanic. Does very good work. At the time of my first visit in '09, he had just completed his training and was continuing his apprenticeship under his father. He is expensive (for Mex), but his work is guaranteed. I strongly recommend him.

Great trip and story. How many gallons of fuel did you burn south of the border?
