Jaime's '95

Post by Phoenix0783 »

I figured it's about time to start one of these. I bought my Bronco last June and it already had the cut and turned beams, wheels and tires, stock radius arms, and a block for lift in the back.

I put the radius arms on it a couple of days after I got it and then went down to the Yerington 300 race a week later. The radius arms are modeled after the old Rancho ones except these use a big bolt on the end so I can upgrade to heims later. Next up was some J40s. Talk about drive line vibration! The pinion angle was horrible with no wedges. That's OK because a 9" was going in soon. I found a '79 hd housing and 3rd member for cheap on craigslist and threw some 4.56s and true tracs in the front and back. Next I made some front sway bar quick disconnects since it's my daily driver and I drive on the highway every day. That's where I'm at now. Real shocks are up next as well as some coil buckets.

Thanks Scott! Sorry I can't make out to Paisley this weekend, Beaver football calls.

A quick update. Got a set of 2.5x12 Kings for cheap, just have to remove that 90* fitting. I can't find any used coil buckets for sale anywhere and new ones are too expensive, so I'm going to fab some up once I get the deaver coils from the delivery man.

Got to work with the longer Deaver coils and taller buckets. I'm going to start working on the shock mounts tomorrow.

I just wanted to set it back down. Still working on a way to keep the spring centered and retained.

Cut the tops out of your stock buckets and weld them in.

All done! The ride is so much better now without those stupidly stiff old springs.

You can see how the PO did some touch up with the paint

P.S. Anyone want to buy some coil springs? Cheap!

How high did that coil make your Bronco sit? Looking in to doing around the same thing to mine but I dont want it to sit too high.

I made the coil buckets a little taller so it still sits at a 4" lift.

Working on the rear this week.

Drooped out. Was surprised that there was no binding in the driveshaft.

Any ideas on getting this shock mount to fit short of cutting it and adding flanges? If I have to cut it, I think I'll do it near one of the ends, or is it better out in the middle? Tubing is 2" .120 wall.

I really like your rear bumper. I am looking to build one similar except I would like to put diamondplate or flat metal over it though so I can stand on it. I also might wrap it around the quarter panel for added protection. Good work.

Well, the e4od took a dump on me. It was starting to act funny so I took it to a shop and they pulled the pan and there was about a 1/4" of fine shavings all around the magnet. They called me back today and said the most of the clutches were fried and one of the planetaries was pretty much dunzo. The shop referred to the torque converter it had as a "blue bomb," which apparently is a cheap rebuilt unit from Mexico that he quit using about 10 years ago.

Getting upgraded with a billet torque converter, more clutches and a shift kit now. I'll probably add another cooler in line with the additional stock one now for peace of mind.

All this probably means I'll have to end up selling it. Anyone want it?
