What do you mean? No Skid plate? Just removable light bar?

They are working on a custom way to mount the light bar without bulky "pins" sticking up to slide on to........I am anxious to see what they design.

As for skid, I like clean and simple. I have been watching tons of off road videos to see what I like and what I don't. I will make multiple cardboard versions until I am satisfied, then make an aluminum skid once.

i just mean i like the simple design with out the hoop over lights, i was assuming you were doing that.
it looks good,i like your bronco.

just run vertical boss' through the main tube and light bar and bolt through them. If you want to get tricky machine custom boss' so the light bar boss "engages" or fits into the main tube boss slightly.

Mounting like this will be stout and they pretty much "disappear" when the light bar isn't on the truck.

If you want a drawing of what I mean let me know.


*edit* - semi bored at work so I drew up something quickly.

Left side is straight boss on boss. Right side is another idea to get a firmer "connection" between the light bar and bumper. It's just a piece of tube (2.5" dia. - so might not be lying around the shop) halved and set on top of the 2" main tube.

Of course this all depends on how your light bar mount is designed - but it's an idea and it gave me something to fart around with for 5 minutes

I made a PDF from cad. Can't upload a pdf. Therefore I saved to jpeg format. For some reason file size is staying "big" (625mb) even after I re-sized it and it won't let me load that.

Not sure why I had issues with getting it posted yesterday but I got frustrated and said F it.

yeah - but you have "special" powers

It said something like 325kb was the max file size. It was 635kb before I re-sized it and I think something like 585 after, so it wouldn't load.

Yep, seen it. Since I'm not the fabricator type I have a couple questions. Would you drill a hold through and then weld a sleeve in there for support then just bolt through that sleeve to the removable bar (depending on shape)?

I ran across this pic yesterday and save the address so I could post here. It shows what I am talking about pretty much. And yes Andy - I personally would run a boss through the hole in the tube rather than just a bolt through it. Makes it stronger.

ok - got it. Sorry for the huge size. I had it a 4x6 but didn't look at pixel size. You can see the boss' I was talking about. I wouldn't make them stick through the main tube as far as these guys do (I keep mine pretty much flush) but you get the idea.

So, a late update but update none the less.

I wanted to run my lights for the night race last weekend. I called Pirate Lab in Corona and they agreed to get it done for me on Friday (they actually pulled off another job to get me done on short notice). After talking it over with them (and Steve and a few others) I went with the mounting system like above. Pirate lab will rush for you but they don't cut corners (still capped ends and actually machined the sleeves on their lathe). Here's how it came out.
