Must have been a great feeling to put all those miles on it after all your hard work Brian. Good to see it getting used. Looking forward to some video.

Ye, the toyota are the equivalent of paper in the Rock Paper Scissors war.......no doubt.

Thank goodness for road hazard!!

It sure was! New laundry list of things to do, hahaha. Nothing that will put it out of commission though.

Nice. Let me know next time you're gonna do a day trip like this. I may be able to swing it if it's not overnight.

Discount tire. I killed two tires at the race in lucerne in September, 22 bucks each and they were replaced, no questions asked. We has to blaze new trail to get to the class 9 car after a rollover.

It really is beneficial.

Sooooo.. I walked into the shop to find another flat!!!! Puncture through the side wall on the frt. pass. tire. So I am just wondering, are others having these issues with BFG projects or BAJA T/As? Yikes you have had good luck with the Toyos right, are they a race tire? Im not diggin the idea of a few hundred dollars in tires everytime I take out the brnoco. Hazard replacment is an option but its still gonna be a pain to get new tire every trip. What do you guys think? Just bad luck, bad driving ; ) or do my tire just not fit the needs of the truck and driving style?

Toyo's and Baja's will be much better. But road manners go south a bit in exchange.

I wonder if you just had some bad luck. Just for reference, I've done 5 yrs (approx 8 desert trips a year) with my bronco, and had a total of 3 flats over the course of that time. All on ATs. All three were blazing unchartered trail going to rescue or work on a broken race car.

The old school good years I'm running are hard to beat in puncture resistance but they wear fast. I found a set on rcd for 600$ for 5 recently but they sold before I could grab em. I'm not a tire expert but have had good luck with the BFg at's in the past( plugged them a few times lol), I've never really had a blow out like yours though but I typically run lower air pressure than most. I can get you some of those short course generals if you wanting something cheap.

Right now it is between getting a few new KM2 with road hazard and switching over to projects. Im still weighing the pros and cons.

The pucture doesnt bother me too much I had 2 of those the first trip and Discount fixes it for free. I am just blown away by that blow out. I would have thought I would have noticed a hit big neouhg to do that much damage. I really like the traction of the KM2. When we ran the projects on the toyota the thing slid all over the place and never seemed to hook up very good. Im gonna look further into Toyos

I have to guess it was a bad tire, my co worker bought a set of new BFg at's a year ago and 2 blew like yours, ripped to shreads out of the blue in fair weather on the fwy, I've never had a BFg fail that way. He got rid of them shortly after even though they were covered by road hazard. I'm assuming there was either defective lamination or the lamination broke down internally. He drove back n forth to big bear daily and the tires made it up n down the hill 3 times only. I have to guess it was temperature accelerated delamination. It was a pretty funny story though, I guess he ended up changing a tire at the first available side street and parked in front of some cholo filled crack house. They said if he wasn't gonna buy he had to move along or pay a tax lol poor bastard was scared big time. He said he was NASCAR fast cause 10 dudes came out of the house and were watching him change his tire. Yikes!!

I've mounted Toyo street & race tires. The race tires look the same at first glance, but they are a night and day difference from the street versions. I personally would not run a street Toyo on a dedicated dirt rig.

Why not Baja's...... Better street manners, and thicker sidewalls (plus they have the ultra cool cactus on the sidewall!!)

I think Baja T/A's are great tires myself. I've raced on them in extremely rough conditions with no beadlocks and under 15 psi.

I've run the street Toy's since 2007. Zero flats. Around 20psi in the dirt. I tend to give them a work out, meaning I don't slow down much for rocks and square edges. For me, they're very confidence inspiring. Burly. Tough. Good street manners. Good in the rocks. Good in the rain. Stable in the dirt at speed. Quiet, even when worn. Balance awesome! Not even running weights or beads in the current set. I never ran Baja T/A's, but I ran BFG A/T's and M/T's for years. My only complaints were the paper thin sidewalls that always got punctured by sharp rocks and 3/8' sticks, and the noisy M/T's after they got some miles on them. I'm sure they've changed over the years (noise). Toyo's are reliable, period. They get you there and get you home. The biggest drawback is the weight. They are a bit heavier than other tires and that's a trade-off that is outweighed by performance, IMO. This doesn't mean flats and damage won't happen, but six years of success do say something to me. I'll take that over the cool single purpose tires any day. If I towed my rig to get there, well then I might have a change of heart.
