Went to Barstow to play chase for Matt and the Kavedudes! Had a great day. Came home, and now the Bronco went to Keifer for a little love!

Mark is doing the following:
SW performance cut and turned beams (fully boxed, plated, and uni balls) Powdercoated black
SW performance radius arms (also uni balls, and with crossmember reinforcement) Powdercoated grey like the bumpers and 2 link)

I am also going to removing the Camburg Shackle, and replacing with stock. I seem to ride very low in the rear every time I load up with cargo. I am very happy with the shock valving and performance so that is not the route I want to go first, I would like this thing to sit level when loaded. I have driven this thing in Barstow with very little cargo (which is when it sits level), and it works awesome, typically when I go to Baja, the cargo goes up by about 500 lbs, and the rear sinks. Once it does that, I feel the attitude of the rear suspension changes with less bump travel. I am looking for it to sit stink bug when unloaded, and then level out with a HEAVY LOAD. Hoping the shackle change works, it should really only limit my down travel a very little bit (maybe 1/2" if that). If this doesnt work, then it is off to Deaver, to have them re-work the leafs, maybe add one or two more leaf packs.

Cage, yes, I definitely do plan on doing, probably not until next summer (the petty funds need to grow exponentially to do it!). Here is what I envision for a cage, and many will argue it might not be the best, but it is what I would like. A simple six point, tied into the frame with bushings (Using the Autofab Body Mount with cage tie in's). Go through the dash, but no window or door bars. Just gusset all the corners instead. I also want full access to the rear seat, and do not want a big bar running down behind the front seats... maybe a removable one..... but would prefer it to be very simple. Most likely will do 1.75" (dont care if it is score tagged). My goal/mission is it needs to stay tight like yours Tom. Keifer would definitely be my choice for the work, particualrly because of the work I have seen him do around the dash, I really like it.

I think your vision for the cage is great... I wouldn't worry too much about the dash bar, it was actually much easier than you'd think. I'm very happy with the very minimal impact to the dash with a full bar behind it. I only had to carve out about 1½" on either side for the A-pillar bar to dive through. No other impact at all. The orignal glove box even fits!

1¾" DOM is great choice for a couple of reasons... it's much less invasive into the cab, it's plenty strong enough for safety, rigidity and small enough to tie into the body inside... it's a great choice for your parameters. I also think Mark has some good ideas for behind the seats so you get good harness mount points, but still allows access to the back.

Peanut butter is just getting better and better... it's already AWESOME, and your plans for the future are just that much better...

When do you pick it up from Mark's?

Should have clarified, I definitely want a dash bar beneath the dash for strenght, just not realy big on the V bars in the windshield. Looking at a few of Marks builds, he has done some both with and without those.

I am with you though, 1 3/4" and call it a day. The idea is to do the body mounts in poly, using Autofabs cage mounts this year, figure I can buy those parts, powdercoat the mounts, and get the poly body mounts in all at once... then it will have the proper platform for Mark to do his gig!

I plan to pick it up the 8th or 9th of April... .you gonna be around? Cerveza time?

Why not leapfrog your rear hangars down to get your ride height back? Then you can keep the longer shackle and it's benefits.

Unfortunately, err, well not UNfortunately, I'll actually be in SF for the week... Come on down! I'll buy the cervesa...

I went back and forth on the V-bars in the windshied... and when I did the pro-con analysis it was pretty clear that for my application, I certainly didn't need the front dash/windshield V-bars... the bottom line, it's not a race truck! If you do end up putting the truck on it's roof, you'll have plenty of strengh to support the vehicle and protect the occupants without the V-bars.

Thought about that, but that involves cash outlay, going back to the stock shackles does not, so I want to try this first and see if it indeed just is a ride height thing. If it is, then I can start to look at longer term options like the Drop down Leaf brackets, or taking it to Deaver for a little increase in spring rate.

Out of curiosity, are you running a 1" longer shackle?

I believe the Camburg is 2" longer, which in turn would give approximately 3/4"-1" of lower ride height.

All you need is 8 1/2 grade 8 bolts and two pieces of 2"x2"x8"x3/8 angle iron. A simple half inch drill makes the holes you need. Should be able to do it under $50 and two hours of work.

Tony, your idea for a cage sounds like what I want to do also. Just trying to save up the cash. Unfortunatley the project cash is about to take a big hit as I have a family trip to Alaska planned this summer. Damit that place is outrageous expensive during tourist season! Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Oh, Mark suggested two buckets in the rear because he can get them between the rear shock towers.

I doubled up on the top windshield bar to add strength with out needing support bars to block my view.... works great and plenty strong.
