Re: Randy's 93
I've been a little weary about flat spotting with the drag radials on my daily driver and this morning I decided to light the tires to try to warm them up a bit... not sure if it helped or not but it felt pretty cool.
Oddly enough, a friend of mine had CJ7 on 39.5 Super Swampers and somehow the tires didn't flat spot in cold weather.

Not sure if you thought that I was calling the Baja TAs radials or not.. but just in case, I have Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials on my car that I think might flat spot a bit in the mornings.Rmc wrote:The baja ta's are a bias ply tire with some steel plys, there just like bias ply trailer tires

No I assumed u had radials of some kind, I was basically explaining why the baja ta's and other racing tires flat spot so bad if u get non dot.Agui-E7TE wrote:Not sure if you thought that I was calling the Baja TAs radials or not.. but just in case, I have Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials on my car that I think might flat spot a bit in the mornings.Rmc wrote:The baja ta's are a bias ply tire with some steel plys, there just like bias ply trailer tires

Re: Randy's 93
Gotcha, I didn't realize the Baja TAs were that bad with flat spotting. I've only run radials on everything I own and the only bias ply tires that I have driven on for more than a few miles have been some old bias ply white walls on my dad's '56 F100. They didn't really feel different though.Rmc wrote:No I assumed u had radials of some kind, I was basically explaining why the baja ta's and other racing tires flat spot so bad if u get non dot.Agui-E7TE wrote:Not sure if you thought that I was calling the Baja TAs radials or not.. but just in case, I have Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials on my car that I think might flat spot a bit in the mornings.Rmc wrote:The baja ta's are a bias ply tire with some steel plys, there just like bias ply trailer tires

Re: Randy's 93
Baja TAs AREN'T bad at flat spotting IMO.
Had them on my brother's 85 toyota and then on my exploder & neither seemed to have an issue. MAYBE 5 minutes to warm up on a COLD morning. Still not as bad as some of the previous posts have said the projects are. My fillings all stayed in and weren't even close to rattling loose.

Re: Randy's 93
The tires I had were non dot baja ta's. the tires may have been broken down internally or something because they never truly rounded out as I'm shure a new set probably would, that's what I get for buying third hand tires.
Re: Randy's 93
These tires are DOT... This is my first experience with flat spots but it does go away after driving around a bit. Fortunately the bronco is a toy and not a dd so it really isn't a big deal. I'm still happy with the tire choice, hopefully they hold up better than the BFG AT's. Those things had maybe 300 off road miles and they chunked up pretty quick...I like the throttle haha

Re: Randy's 93
When its smog time, take them for extended drive first. I took a small (5 mile) drive and they felt fine but kept failing to hold speed on the dyno and causing aborted runs. haha A week later after running around all day they passed fine. I LOVE my Bajas!! Try to limit turning while they are flat spotted so you has a more uniform vibration.... turn and get them out of sync and all hell breaks loose!!!

Re: Randy's 93
I second that! Flat spot turning causes chaos! Like u have one lug nut on each front tire that's backed out a waise kinda feeling. Can get scary. Just slow down straighten out n go agian.
Re: Randy's 93
Good to know! Thanks guys
Re: Randy's 93
Finally going dust the cob webs off and get some sand in the seats. Got a Pismo trip planed for the end of this month! Since the last outing I've decreased the front coil over primary spring stop from 4" to 2" at ride height, upgraded to 35's and added a second trans cooler. Any of you guys going to be out there around that time?

That's awesome Randy. Now you just need a trailer and motorhome. Would be nice with a motorhome because you'll have the Bronco if you need to run into town for anything while out camping.

Thats what i want to do too
Re: Randy's 93
Yeah my plan is to get a camper and a trailer big enough from the bronco and a couple quads. Currently on the hunt for a trailer, figure i can tent it for the time being.

Re: Randy's 93
You need 20ft or longer FYI, mines 16ft and there's no way u could fit maybe one quad if you lucky with the bronco. I fit one quad with a Cherokee and it was very tight.
