Has anyone rebuilt a transmission? If so how much did it cost. Did you do upgrades? Was it easy?

Which Transmission? I have done a C6 and my
AOD. The last time I did the AOD, I think was 12 years ago and it cost around $250 for a master rebuild kit with a stage 2 shift kit, Kevlar bands and the upgraded clutch basket to hold more clutch plates. There are special tools needed to replace some of the components. Seal driver's that are unique to the AOD are needed along with a few other tools most people don't have. It is not super hard but it helps if you have a basic working knowledge of how a transmission works. It might be cheaper in the long run to take it to a rebuilder for a bench top job. The labor of taking it in and out can save you some money.

It's the AOD. I'm debating to send it to a shop for a rebuild or get a AOD kit to replace all the seals and bearings. Valve body and get the ring to stop leaking on my driveway.

It is best to get it all done before you do any damage to any hart parts. The costs start going up from there. The problem is the AOD is not really a heavy duty unit but the overdrive is nice to have on a daily driver. I have made the jump to a C6 for more durability since I trailer my Bronco out to the desert.

Throttle body? That's alot of gunk and grime and oil residue.. Might be worth checking out the pcv valve, mine was so clogged it couldnt ever move and I had oil in the intake tubes and throttle body

Went through all that too. And read and cleared all my codes. Still bad idling. I think I've narrowed it down to the transmission.

Does anyone have any recommendation on a brand/type of transmission pan for the AOD? I'm amazed none of my local auto parts stores have one.

Stock pan and gasket is pretty hard to beat.

I bought a pan on summit and turns out it was for the mustang AOD. The stand filter doesn't have that weird tube pickup like the trucks do. A deep dish should work.

Any aftermarket deep pan will require a extension of the fluid filter pickup or you run the risk of sucking air into the system while off roading, going up or down hills and in corners on the street.

Most of the large capacity cast aluminum ones like B&M make are pretty good. Even the one by Summit seams to be a good choice. The two things I are ones with a sending unit threaded port on the side of the pan and a threaded drain port.
One advantage of the cast pans is that they do not distort and leak like the stock pans. The big thing is to torque the pan bolts to 10 foot lbs. If you tighten them anymore then that the gasket will push out and leak. They can be hard to find but I like the Viton pan gaskets for the trans.

I have a Hughes large capacity pan on my AOD and it has not had one issue.
I have a B&M for my C6 but it is not in the Bronco yet with the C6.

Good call wrightracing. But the stock pan does have that odd little bump in it where I'd assume the filter pickup sticks out. So wouldn't it slosh around still??
