Riverside New Guy

Post by DKThree »

Hi all,

Got refered to this site from DR. Looking to build something with more seating than my Ranger for the growing family, and after spending some time lurking around here I'm definately looking for a Bronco.

Also want to say that it seems everyone here is pretty helpful and respectful towards each other, I like that.

Hope to learn a lot from everyone!

Hi Matt,

I was pretty much in the same situation as far as needing a four seat vehicle. The Bronco has proven to be a good choice for me. Comfortable for those long highway drives, enough room for all the gear and is a very capable pre-runner, rock crawler all around 4x4. If only I had more time and money... and a hacienda in San Felipe...

Welcome to GFB, Matt!

I hate to rain on a Bronco parade, but I have two kids (4 and 7) and the Bronco is a pain in the ass. I don't know how old your kids are but if they're still in car seats, the lack of four doors blows. Once they're out of car seats it won't be so bad....

I would also look at TTB Explorers. They have all the same basic parts and can work just as well off-road but have the benefit of 4 doors. And, if fuel economy is important to you, an Explorer is capable of 20 plus miles per gallon. Bronco parts are stronger and there's no replacement for a good full size truck, but I thought I'd throw it out there for you.

If you do end up with an Explorer, you're still welcome here. All the same tech applies and we even have a section for the non-Bronco losers.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

I don't by any means think the Bronco is good for little kids, but it won't be the primary kid hauler either. I was seriously considering the Expo but by the time I put D44's up front, wider rear, and a V8, I would end up with a 4 door Bronco with way more work into it. I also spoke to Mark at Southwest Performance as I really like the sleeper style rig he has and would want to do something along those lines.
