Re: Nothing special class3 pics
Started getting everything tacked in. Had to clearence a little of the cross member to get it to swing and clear all the steering linkages. I should start getting the actual linkage in next week.

Re: Nothing special class3 pics
Weellll, I got the steering all bent up and intalled in her last night. Bumped and drooped it lock to lock and nothing touches! I did have to take a bit out of the lip on the cross member, but that shouldn't be a big deal at all. I'm going to get it all welded up this weekend and get it back on the truck. I need to rebuild my steering box though, I have a dead spot right in the middle. All the steering links are 1.5" x .120 wall 4130 and 7/8 heims.

Re: Nothing special class3 pics
I also got a start on my header flanges. I like the Victor Junior heads, but I hated how close the header bolts were to the exhaust port. I wanted to build my headers bigger than they needed to be for future motor developement. I ended up design a "double flange" design I guess you could call it. The first flange has a port that is slightly oversized in comparison the the flange on the head. It then uses machined down flathead screws to attach it to the block. It also has 3 - 5/16 studs facing outward. The second flange has 3 holes for the studs in the first flange, and has an exhaust port to match the header tubing I am using. They should make building the headers fairly easy. (I hope)

Erik,
The steering is looking really, really nice. Any thoughts of a ram?

Yes, definately want to add a ram in the future, especially if I end up racing it. Right now the plan is to get the thing running and driving so it will stay in this configuration for a while. It would be really easy to add a ram from the cross member to the swinger, but like I said, that will be future developement as time and money permit. Thanks for the compliments!

Very nice work on the exhaust flange......I hate the stock exhaust port and bolt location. You sure fixed that!

Re: Nothing special class3 pics
Started building the headers this weekend. My buddy is doing most of the work in his free time. They are just being "fit up" right now, nothing is 100% finalized. When they are all laid out we will do a final fit up/clean up and they will all be TIG welded together. Sorry for a few of the crappy cell phone pics. The plan is to go up and out to keep the heat out from right under the truck and off the tranny and T-case. I will be running 2 Magnaflow race mufflers and dumping out through the bedsides in front of the rear tires

Re: Nothing special class3 pics
Hey Guys, thanks for the compliments! Yeah, the title came from back when we were cranking out Pro-2's and ProLites, and I didn't want a MIG welded, leaf sprung "personal" desert truck being used as a guage for the work the business was doing. Ha! I look at stuff now I would do different if I did it again, but I really just want to get the thing done so I can play with it!!! All in all I am happy with how it is turning out and I know I will enjoy it.
Ayway, I spent most of the night going over plumbing and scouring catalogs picking out fittings/hose/filters/etc. Real high tech layout going on, but it helps to keep it all straight, and make sure we don't miss anything. Also got the carb mounted up and realized she would need a "little" more room in the truck. I will be switching the filter from a 6" to a 4" to keep it all under the hood. The goal is to get it started by this weekend. I will need to make another shopping list to get it moving under it's own power though.

Re: Nothing special class3 pics
Got a box of all my plumbing parts and the new air filter in. The new filter will fit under the hood much nicer. I should have almost everything I need to plumb fuel, so hopefully I can get fuel plumbed next week. I also got a 9" strange 3rd member with 4:56 gears, and 35 spline axle shafts. I still have to order my drive flanges though. I still have to get the gears for the front as well. I made a shroud this weekend for the radiator, I think it turned out nice, and I made it deep so I could eliminate the fan spacer. I will get one of the guys thats does some welding for us to hopefully get it welded this week.
