Re: Gunit's class 3 racer build
I suspect a transverse leaf sprin, as on a Corvette.

Re: Gunit's class 3 racer build
I'm curious Dave, how did the leaf hold up? Did it make it the whole race? I like the concept but I have doubts on its ablity to survive the beating.

The leaf spring is transverse mounted.
Rick, the set up we used made it all the way to La Paz intact, however the spring itself that I used did not hold up too well. The spring lost it's arch and was bent by the time we got to La Paz. Actually not too bad considering I purchased it from a hot rod parts catalog. The failure was more an issue of the shape and quality of the spring than the set up or design. I plan to have a new custom spring made before we race in SCORE again.

You think you could get the rule changed? Class 8 is frame notch legal now is of today. I would love to see the leaf rule gone

You and our token Blazer racer Chris Raffo. Myself I fear change but I do like the outside the box thinking shown by Dave. Now if he can only find a spring that can hold the truck up after the race he'll be on to something. Good luck brother.mkiefer wrote:You think you could get the rule changed? Lets see some photos of the set up.

Its great to see thinking outside the box, but with all due respect, if you start doing well, you will get protested out. Better to stay with the rules (good or bad) and guarentee your results.

I saw the truck in a shop ( secret ) getting a little front end work. If anybody is to trust to get it right, you have found him.

Re: Gunit's class 3 racer build
I think they said somewhere that they lost a seal on the power steering before San Felipe and couldn't keep fluid in it. They went through all the fluid they could find and the spare parts were already south. Power steering pump also runs the hydro boost for the brakes.retroblazer wrote:So, what happened at the 1000?
Re: Gunit's class 3 racer build
Watching IRC on my laptop I saw they spent a lot of time near RM80 Then they slowly did the goat trail, then they spent a lot of time at the PMEX in Valley Trinidad. Then the spent more time at the BFG pit at Borrego. Then I went to bed. Next morning they were parked at Sky Blue Motel north of San Felipe. Chatter on weatherman verified the above.
Unverified story was they hit a big rock = ball joints, spindle, and steering box seal???
Tough deal when one PS pump works 2 necessary items.
Its cool to grab the coords off IRC then plug them into my GPS in the Bronco and see where they are with a proper background map.
Dealing with the slow refresh on IRC is kinda slow though.

I think those are made by Blitzkrieg (BMS). Not sure if Nate still makes them. Call BMS or contact RMC on this board, as he makes a nice knuckle too.
