1997 f250 prerunner build

whats up guys. I am Wanna bronco from over on FSB (posted a greeting on intro page). I am going to start my build thread ( which at this point is about 75% done)

To start, its a 1997 F-250 HD extended cab short bed. It has a 460 and D50 TTB, and it had a 4" body lift. I was searching for an ext. cab short bed F150 4wd but could not find one in good shape.I have had this truck for about 1.5 years, and has been great. I sold my bronco, mainly because it sat in my garage for months on end, and in the hopes somebody would get some use out of it. I was able to raise a little capital to begin my build.

At first, i was going to do some sort of bolt on kit, like pro comp drop brackets. i searched for awhile and obviously found nothing, so decided from there i was going to build my own suspension. which eventually led to building a prerunner setup.

Last May i began gathering parts.
Cut and turned TTB from Solo motorsports,
2.5/12" Kings,
gas tank from a bronco,
progressive leaf pack,
Currie Heim joints

and some other stuff, like rear bumper is built, tire carrier pieces are all cut and or bent up and pretty much have the design worked out.

I broke the project up into two "phases", one where i took the bed off and used a chassis paint product and replaced some brackets in the rear, as well as stuffed a bronco gas tank in the rear. i had to make a 1.5" drop bracket to allow for fitment, but turned out pretty well. I'll try to get a better pic. i also took the dumb ass body lift off!

no pics, but i had purchased a used set of coilovers off of race dezert, but was still in the infancy of coilover knowledge ( i am still only maybe a toddler at this point though!) they had a 350 over 400 spring rate, obviously not enough. i have sinced purchased a 600 eibach and 700 King, think that should do the trick.

I have 600 + 700 coils for my truck as a starting point. We'll see. Do you still have the other coils?

Sweet! I really dig the f250extra cab shortbed. I'd suggest you keep your existing wheels. They are forged alcoas, much better than most stuff out there

X2. Those Generals will fit fine on your OE wheels. The forged Alcoas also fit the bore of the hub perfectly which makes them and the lug stud stronger.

yeah i hear ya, but something I've left out of this is whole thread is that i live just outside Kansas city (however I am from San Diego), there are some dunes about 5 hours from here, but the truck isn't going to see anyhting too extreme. my goal is to slowly build the truck up, and go more extreme. maybe get into the Texas desert races in a year or two. but for now this will work.

this is my battery box for my optima red top, i am mounting it uder the bed just in front of the passenger side rear tire.

i'll stitch them up and when everything is done and looks good, pull it all off, weld it all up then add some dimple died plates.

how do i go about putting the coilover into the shock hoop and lower shock mount once its all done? the only thing i can think of is a coil compressor, which is less than ideal.

also, i need to RE-rebuild the coilover, seeing as i am pretty sure i did something wrong the first go around, can i charge the shock once its on the truck?

You should not need a coil compressor to install the coils onto the shocks. They shocks need to be charged at full extension, weather that be in or out of the truck.

yeah, i don't know what i was thinking. i had tried fit them in there before, but i think i was doing it wrong. i got it now

Go back to the Alcoas, and you wont need the fiberglass, those wheels look pretty wide, and with a pretty high offset. That is likely causing that tire sticking out so much.
