Not much to update but I did ditch the nerf bars and installed some AMP electric steps-Much nicer than bars and they tuck cleanly when doors close.

Still waiting on King to send my Bypasses.

She's wants to play in the sand and see if the campershell stays put.

I have the AMPs on my truck, love em. Going to add LED strips for lighting. Does yours have the two little lights on each side?

Been thinking about trying to put them on the crew, but the cost is scaring me away. Seems like a lot of dough that could go elsewhere on the project.
Since you guys have installed them - you think I'd be able to take a set from say a superduty or similar & make them work on my crew? My thought is I'd just have to make brackets - right?

They are about the only step on the market I like. Well built, use a window motor to operate (easy to replace/repair). Installing one on a 70s truck shouldn't be that hard, assuming there is enough room under the cab. I have seen/heard of sets for $500-$750.

I figured install wouldn't be super difficult as I can fab pretty much anything to bolt them up I think. Getting them to operate is my concern. From what I've read I think they tie them into the computer on newer trucks. I'd assume they'd have to have something simple for those of us with dinosaur trucks, but I haven't seen what it is yet. Do you know anything about this end of it?

As far as price goes - cheapest I've ever seen a set was $450 & they went quick (before I could get to them!). I do a CL search every now & again & typically see them at $800-900 or even more for used ones. Still just seemed like a lot of cash for a step. Although, from what I've seen I do like them looks wise & because they go away when not in use, so I may just have to bite the bullet & go with them.

They are not tied into the computer. You only need a door signal for each door. A simple pin switch will work.

I have the LED light set up and it's a good addition. Timer in the controller will time them out after 5 minutes if you keep steps down. They illuminate the steps and ground nicely-Stacey likes them for climbing in the truck when it's dark.

I held out as well, in the end the $600-800 used ones got me looking for new ones- Scored a deal and got them shipped free without tax for $1000. Install was really easy and I'm impressed with the quality and how secure they are once installed. I did adjust them a bit once finished to get a little more clearance on the front tires.

Absolutely, brackets mount on body underside and use a heavy duty toggle style nut that fits in the sheetmetal openings and a channel that captures the bottom of the body seam. The top of the bracket has holes for blind rivets. Once mounted the actuator linkage is secured in the mount.

Thanks Bob. After Philo's comments, yours & then getting some pics of a set a buddy put on his super dookie crew cab I think I've decided I want these.
Buddy says the kids/wife love them & makes it way easier for them to get in the truck as well. The fact that they swing down low but then go away is what I like.

I've located a cheap set semi locally that has 1 piece that is broken. I'm planning on calling AMP today to look at replacement cost for that & if they happen to have any specific brackets for the old trucks like mine.
I've got pics of a set of these on a '78 crew & the brackets don't look custom made for it - so I may get lucky.

Had to take my spare out to clear the driver side shock resi. 35" Toyo, Bypasses and factory receiver hitch just doesn't quite fit

All the more reason to fab up an inside tire mount.

Arent they usually body up?
