Joxracing's Newbie F-150 build.

On the c&t issue. If you think you are having trouble with all the other stuff, just wait till you try to bite off the C&t. I know that it costs $, but it is money well spent to get someone else to do it for you. The time and head aches you save not having to reinvent the wheel will make it worth it. Keep up good work.

The trouble really isnt the actually problems with the truck. Its the fact i only have 2 40 minute blocks to work on it everyday. and now, the shop teacher is being a royal ass and not letting us in the shop.

i realize that c&t is a huge thing, thats why i bought a separate set of beams to learn on.

It's coming from experience. We are all looking out for your safety and you are blowing off some pretty seasoned fabricators advice.

Just food for thought. Some of these guys have been fabbing longer than you have been alive...

I know, i wouldnt call it blowing off.

I'm taking it, but i have a set, and i want to try it. You cant improve your skills or learn anything if you send them out for someone else to do...

right?

If you know what to look for/at when you get them back you sure can...

If you've only got a 110v MIG in that shop and an newbie/inexperienced welder at the trigger I would be VERY careful with doing these.

I'm all for learning and especially learn by doing but light bars, tire mounts and bumpers are what most people tackle 1st. There is a LOT to learn before you jump into suspensions and messing with what the entire weight of your truck is riding on.

I am not disheartening in any way but they're right. I've been doing this for a while, and have learned these guys really know what they're talking about. If you don't do it right, you could end up with alot worse than a bad alignment, you could end up killing yourself. Please think this out. I've done alot on my own but I've had experienced offroad fabricators look at it before I go out. It seems simple but man you will find that even shock mounting is a HUGE trick. I went through 5 different shock mount locations before going coilovered. Not to mention that I had to buy 2 different sets of coils just so the front end would sit right.

bringing the truck home tmrw, rolled it out of the school shop today. we go on spring break this week so i want it home so I can actually do some work on it...

Here's some pic's of it in the sunlight. the springs are actually starting to settle a little bit....

Find yourself some rancho drop brackets. They work awesome too and you can find them for cheap.

Or just go Cut and Turn. For the money you will spend on Rancho brackets (unless you score them at a junkyard), you can scoop up some C&T

Did you check the orientation of the alignment cams. It looks like there is a lot of positive caster with the drop brackets. The cams may need to be rotated 180*.

yeah i know, i still need to adjust those, and/or buy the max alignment cams....

It may not need the max alignment cams. Even small cams will throw your alignment way off when installed incorrectly. The factory cams were evil to get out of my 95 Michigan Bronco because of the rust. I eventual pulled out my Makita hammer drill and set it to hammer only with a blunt chisel bit and they popped right out.

I was on the Rifle River yesterday. Steelhead trout are running in from the lake. Maybe spring will eventually get here. Enjoy your spring break.

Got the water pump done, and the brake lines all hooked up.

its nice having the truck back in my home garage so i can work on it whenever i want...

these are the shock towers I got, f-250 brand., Im gonna add some gussets off of them too.

i like the fact that you are doing all this yourself.that is how most of have started building and selling parts.keep upi the good work on this and continue to read and learn more and more.
one piece of advise though coming from a do it yourself back ground: get a hold of a good weld machine that will burn more than 1/4 plate in two passes(meaning loose DO NOT USE a 110v mig welder)to weld the beams up.beacuse where you are welding you are welding more than 1/4 thick. and when you can honestly say"I am good at welding" then tackle the cut and turn job.
