E4od to np205

So my new 408w and first trip out the transfer case output shaft broke
Caused all hell on my driveshaft since it slipped backwards and binded while I was on it in a whoop section.


Soo since I’ve had nothing but issues trying to get my electric bw1356 transfercase to work (shift on fly) (two new electric motors and still doesn’t work right along with the 4wd module saying it’s ok) was wanting to put the np205 on the e4od. (I heard it’s stronger and a manual) now I’ve read it doesn’t fit but from me looking at the pictures there’s a double cardigan on there front driveshaft. Now my 1995 bronco doesn’t have that on the front and I feel like I have plenty of room to have it fit.. I know it sits 3” closer so a spacer/adaptor would be needed and clocking the np205... anyone do this that actually have a picture or someone knowing someone that has actually done it...

If I were you my 1st call (or google search) would be advanced adapters. They may have an adapter already to mate the 2 and may be able to tell you what it would take. Pirate 4x4 is another spot to do some searching. Those guys LOVE the 205 so someone out there has done it I'm sure.

All of my experience with the 205 is the divorced ones in the early 70's trucks = not gonna help you.

ford made two tails a 5 inch and a 8 inch. They also did steel and aluminum cast tail. I used a clock ring for my C6 to np205 with the 5 inch tail (it would be the same for the E40D). North West Fabwork was who I used advance adaptors also has one, you can also get one that provides a mounting option to cross member etc.
NP 205 are well made but steel...so heavier then your current set up, don't let that change your mind they work well. Just make sure you have a good mount. Lots of options for this as well.
The fit part can also be addressed with the clock ring.
you can keep the np205 single stick or change to dual it is a cool option.

The pan on the E4OD is wider than a C6. You would have to clock the thing pretty far up to get it to clear. Going down will only put it deeper into then pan. Maybe if you notched the pan it might clear.

I would look for a NV271. Will bolt on and much stronger.

Brian - the NV271's are on the newer (mid 2000's) Chevy's - right?

I did talk to advanced adaptors and they said it’s a direct Bolt (not sure if you can clock it without a adapter). Yeah I heard it’s heavy and needs additional support which isn’t a big deal.. the big thing I was worried about was clearing the pan and was hoping someone here has done it haha. Ima have to look at the nv271.

Would a BW 4407 out of a 96-97 f350 work? I think they bolt directly to the E4od. Might be a little too long. Idk.

Tchajagos, yes it would work and is a magnesium case vs aluminum I am not the guy to ask if Magnesium is stronger.... but you nailed it as it would shorten the drive line some.... not a big deal if he is fine with limiting travel for high speeds and could case bad drive line angles.....slow speed it probably fine. Fast he will have issues. Slow and fast are also relative terms right.... the parts will dictate slow and fast.. haha you my not be moving but things are spinning fast and are at an angle (drooping out) you could have an issue.

4407 (magnesium) is bolt on yoke I believe and the 4406 (aluminum) is slip yoke.

Aluminum case is not an issue, the output shaft is like twice the size of a NP205.

The floors on SD's were the same up to 04. So I would say yes, the linkage should come out in the right place.

Thanks, I figured with the drastically different body styles they changed the floors too. Good to know though!
