MAF Conversion ????

Hello All,
Ok on my 95 F150 with a 5.8 I've got an issue - it runs like all hell :-). I've had this engine in a 72 Bronco and ran fine so I'm quite positive it's the 95 speed density electronics. For some reason I thought you could just get a dump tune, have the stock SD ECU get a new chip burned and all good. From what I gather that's not the case. The engine bottom end is stock, but has an E303 cam, 1.7 roller rockers, some exhaust porting to the heads, actual Lightning GT-40 manifolds, a 75mm TB, 24# injectors and Bassani Lightning 1 5/8" headers w/ their Lightning Y-pipe. Not really all that much motor but still more than the stock electronics can handle. So my question is simple-- can my current system be tuned effectively, can I use the MAF I robbed from a 95 5.8 MAF equipped truck or am I stuck forking over the cash for an aftermarket MAF conversion. All the above are fine but the least financially painful of course the better while still maintaining max power!

Thx,
Matt

The 95 May will work for you as long as the computer is for an E4OD. Otherwise you can piggy back the computers with a mustang w/MAF and have the SD computer run your trans. But yes that combo will not run in a speed density system. It is a fairly mild build that will run great with MAF.

Did you calibrate the system for the 24psi in injectors ? Most gen 1 lightnings are speed density but 19psi injectors, Your combo sounds good.
Try giving Gerg at call at ADS he did alot of tune work for me in your area

Yes a MAF system is much easyier and you can get a caned tune at tweecer, I like to use 96 pcm better

You need for help send me a pm with your number

The lightning use a cam grid with a 114* lobe separation and 24lbs injectors. The issue is the cam and the rockers as stock is 1.6. You can get away with 1.7 rockers but the idle sucks. Lobe separation on the e303 is 110*.

Ok well I'm not sure at this moment whether the MOB1 computer works with the E4OD or not. So there's a couple places that sell these MAF conversion kits -there's http://www.mass-air.com/Products.htm
And Five o logy-- there's a huge difference in the kits cost. IST has been around for at least 20 years but at about $1500 it's not cheap. Most importantly is the power but that the E4OD works well together. Anyone use these people?

My buddy Ryan is the owner of Fiveology,I used one of this kits on my 95 and so glad that I did. Customer service is excellent and the install is pretty straight forward. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of his products. My bronco runs and drives so much better now and the throttle response is awesome!

I guess my biggest question is why is Fiveology $700 and Interactive $1500??. There has to be something different that's major. I'm not following what a layover design is???

So figured out basically the cost difference. The IST kit uses a A9P mustang computer and a Baumenator controller along with a couple IST products. Steve has helped me figure out more about the Fiveolgy kit. I imagine they probably work just fine but it's the Baumenator kit - anyone uses this controller?

I am in the process of doing the fiveology maf swap on mine. I'm lucky though I still have the c6 not OD.

Do you have to add the vss to convert a 1990 bronco to maf

If I'm not mistaken you have an 8.8 with vss from the factory, in my 1995 with E4oD and 8.8 I needed nothing additional with the Fiveology kit accept for fabricating a bracket to adapt my k&n intake. Basically lay the new harness over the injectors, plug in the new o2 sensor connector and re pin about a dozen wires to the ECU. The most difficult part is drilling out new holes for the PCM connector that plugs into the new WAY1. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a text 424-400-4062, me and Brian had to troubleshoot a few issues that came up after the swap but were pretty simple fixes. For example my EGR valve and sensor were bad, it didn't effect my speed density but wreaked havoc on the MAF.

I've converted to SEFI in a 72 bronco without a VSS and it ran great but a VSS I'm sure wouldn't be a detriment.

I'm not sure how much work it is to install the Fiveolgy -- how's it go in?

My 95 has a 9" so I'm going with a tcase mounted sensor and tone ring.

I got the kit from him just in case but I don't think I'm going to need it, but I still have 5.8 with c6, what trans do you have?

I have a C6, Np205 transfercase with a donor 1990 351w/408 and a Currie 9" rearend. I have stripped out all the old wiring from my 1986 and have everything from a 1990 Bronco to put in the 351w/408 stroker. The 408 is my reasoning to go to a OBD2 MAF Setup.

Screw thst David - use 89-93 mustang injection-- especially if you are not going to worry about smog. It's literally like 4 wires and that's it

I live in CA, so smog passable is a must, at least until I find some acreage out in Ocotillo. The plan is to tune the motor to pass smog, then re-tune for performance. With OBD2, changing the program will be easier to do myself.

Not to butt it but I am thinking about doing this swap with an E4OD. I've read so many things in regards to computer to use and how a solenoid in the transmission moved from the transmission to the pcm etc. Mine is a 92 351w. Don't mean to steal from vintage just thought I would ask here.
