I'm building a nine inch out of a 79 bronco. What am I looking for to start? It's trussed and straightened. Do I need a modular case? How strong are these cases???

Well you can break anything if you try hard enough. The weak point on the standard case is the area around the small bearing that supports the end of the pinion shaft. I have never broken a nodular case but then we don't run a ton of hp either. If you are stepping up to 40 spline axles, you need the 3.25" bearings. The other standard mod is using a Daytona pinion carrier. They use larger bearings.

So will the Daytona carrier fit in the factory housing? I run a stock 5.8 so should I be worried about pinion deflection??

Yes it will fit. It's under $100 and your going to get new bearings anyway if it's being rebuilt. It all adds up in a hurry and there are many thousands of stock carriers out there that survive just fine.

lee is finally stepping it up. so the next question is are you going to swap a c6 in for the trans and swap the stock computer for a manual transmission one out of an earlier bronco? Or are you going to run the speed sensor relocation kit on the back or the t-case??
