So I found another steal on craigslist, I found a C6 trans and a 351 Cleveland out of a 76 4x4 I get the trans and all the brackets and converter, and the motor is complete to I just have to have the heads surfaced and finish the rebuild. The only reason I'm going for this deal is because I'm getting everything for $100... BTW this truck was running and he lost money to finish the rebuild
Now my only concern is does this year and model of 351 and C6 have problems? I know that they both may need work but I figured the cores alone would cost more, or am I buying a bunch of junk parts...
And since it is a big block will my 4x4 transfer case be different?
Thanks B

Re: Picking up a C6 Trans and a 351 Cleveland
You should check on the availability of parts that you may want to add to your set up in the future. Not sure what the plans are. I don't know how much aftermarket support the 351C has. I know I have had a bit of a struggle at times finding stuff for my 351M for my 78 bronco build, and if i did find stuff it was often very expensive. Just something to think about...

Thanks agian for all your help! I'm going to pass on the motor and focus on finding more spare stock parts like drive shafts and front stock suspension replacement parts, so if anyone has any that are collecting dust or are in the way let me know please....
Thanks B

Clevelands are good but the windsor makes more torque and to me is more reliable. The 351C is a small block it would mate no worries, but I don't know if the motor mounts are the same. If its a dd why not just keep the e4od?
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

351C is all the same (engine mounts, bellhousing, etc.) except for the basic engine design. Clevos are just as relaible as Winsors, Randy, and I would run one in a snap, with the TFS EFI intake, BBF TFI distributor, etc. The only problem is the front dress is all V belt, UUGH!hobbyturnedobsession wrote:Clevelands are good but the windsor makes more torque and to me is more reliable. I think you could use a serpentine setup on a clevor...unless of course the reverse rotation pump affects the way the cylinders are cooled. I've always liked the idea of building a clevor and those new fuel injection intakes from Trick Flow are just plain cool.
Re: Picking up a C6 Trans and a 351 Cleveland
If it really came out of a 76 truck in the USA 99% chance it is not a cleveland but a 351M. Do some measuring and checking because if it is not a C motor that trans will do you no good on a small block.
I am also learning (slowly)that getting a really good deal on stuff that isnt what you really want or need is really costly and usually never gets used. I have some real 351C stuff still for a car I sold 20 years ago.

You're right about that. Unless someone swapped in the motor previously because the Cleveland was only available in cars. The 351M however was only available in trucks and uses a big block bell-housing but its considered a small block.MOSS2 wrote:If it really came out of a 76 truck in the USA 99% chance it is not a cleveland but a 351M.
