I've had my bronco for a year or so now and have driven it to Baja and Oklahoma and it blew through smog so I guess I neglected it. Anyway, I have noticed a slight miss and decided to check the plugs.....they are old and worn to .062 gap!!!! I hang my head in shame.

What plugs do you guys recommend? I was looking online and thinking the $1.99 motorcrafts (2nd choice Bosch super which is copper) would be my choice but wanted some opinions. My old boss (old indy car driver/team owner) laughs at the splitfires and such so I have kind of grouped the bosch +4's in that same group as "gimick plugs". Enough rambling, opinions?

Hey Andy,
I did the Bosch Platinums and when I took it to Johnny Lightning, he tossed and replaced with the $1.99 Motorcrafts.... said these things do not do well with high end plugs..... I think you are the right track, stick to the motorcrafts...... you should replace your wirtes too....

Wires are the best part of the setup at this point I think. I figure I will have to do cap/rotor too since I've been running .062 gap it probably killed them too.

OEM for that (cap/rotor) or what?

I did the MSD cap and oem rotor.....

Depends on the Ignition.
Factory type, then exactly the plug recommended by the factory.
Aftermarket Hi-Pro ignition then a corresponding plug.

Its bone stock 5.8L 95 bronco. I don't buy much from the dealership so looking online I saw vatozone sells motorcraft.......

I've always had good luck with an MSD 6 box, MSD cap + rotor, Ford motorsports or MSD wires, and #25 Autolite plug. I run regular plugs in my crew cab and it specified platinum from the factory. I don't mind changing them a little more often.

It is more about getting the right heat range than it is about huge plug gaps or funny shaped electrodes. I know of some bracket racers that tried the different plugs and different gaps and they found the quickest times were from standard plugs with .20 gaps. They were running durasparks and msd boxes and making around 500hp+ with Clevelands. I think Philo made a good recommendation on ignition setup.

Proper heat range autolites or the motorcrafts. I have tried others but for the cost difference nothing beats either of these for our trucks IMO

They fit just like stock in all the O.E. retainers and aren't any more money than any other "premium" wire set. Any good cap and rotor will work just fine. Don't waste your money on a "high performance" cap and rotor. They don't work any better than the stock stuff.

No experience with the summit stuff personally.

I've ran both the FMS 9mm's and taylor spiro-pros, both are great wire sets and will last. Motorcraft cap and rotor, MSD coil and the factory spec motorcraft plugs are great for a pretty stock motor.

Sorry, Andy. I never answered the above. It would probably be fine, but I don't have any experience with it either. As I already said, I like the Motorcraft stuff because the quality is great and I know it fits like OE.

So the motocraft plug wires run $102 from my local dealer. That pretty much the going rate? Also any other recommendations for a 96 351 with 160k on a stock motor? Just picked the truck up over the weekend and wanted to start with a tune up .

Buy them online. I'm sure you can find them for less.

I got mine on Amazon for 60 I think. The fit isn't the best though. A couple are a bit too short.

These are ford 9mm racing wires from Summit for like $45 set that the best hands down for the money.

The drawback with the 9mm stuff is that it doesn't fit in the factory wire holders. I like for things to be tidy and well mounted....

They also sell aftermarket wide holders. I like those 2 piece plastic ones as they look clean.
