Question (Newbie to Bronco's)

I bought a 92 Bronco and originally I was told the motor didn't run and the trans was bad. Turns out the motor is perfect. They claimed the motor was locked and wouldn't turn over and it was the shift linkage was way off. When it was in Park it wasn't in park. I had to put the gear selector in Neutral for it to fire. It started right up and ran awesome. Let it idle for 30 minutes before driving it. So my question is this about the tranny. When its idling it runs perfect. When you put it into gear it dies. You can get the rpm's up around 2000 and pop it into gear and your going. It doesn't automatically shift but you can manually shift the trans and all the gears are there. When you come to a stop its like driving a stick and not putting the clutch and it chugs and dies. Anybody have any ideas of where to start? Thing handles awesome, steers straight as possible, a/c works ice cold. Not bad for $600.

It sounds like the torque converter is locked.

X2 on torque converter being locked. This is controlled by a solenoid in the valve body.

Read the computer for codes, most likely the OD light is blinking. IT could be a simple as the solenoid being stuck from old gnar ATF that was never changed or as bad as needing a full trans rebuild. It might be ok with just changing the solenoid too.

Also check the large wiring harness going to the trans for damage or being soaked in ATF oil.

If the shift linkage is off it might have been from someone poking around in there that didn't know what they were doing. Look for man made problems.

Cool I appreciate all the suggestions. I will get on it tomorrow and figure this out. Be cool to find out both issues are stupid minor things.
