Opinions?

Post by njackson580 »

I have posted before asking g about potential bronco buys. Life happens, and I'm still bronco less.

But yesterday, I sold motorcycle and actually have cash burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm headed to look (hesitant to buy) at a bronco about an hour away from me with the correct options I want, but with 195,000 miles. I talked to dude, he claims the tranny was rebuilt not long ago (I assume e40d).

Is there anything in particular I should watch for? Potential problems at this high mileage? Or even just in general while looking at 5.8/E40D manual t case Broncos?

I'm headed to look in just a few hours. Any help is appreciated.

The t case oil pump tab can wear through the case and then wraps around the shaft. Easy to fix but the only way to check is to remove the t case and split it apart. It happens on higher milage 1356 t cases. othaer than that just normal wear and tear. look for leaking axle seals on the 8.8. may need new axles.

90 bronco probably has AOD, no E4OD.

Here are a few other options in your area. 92-96 have E4OD which is better than the AOD, and 95/96 were the best model years.

Pricier, but it's a 96 with 50k less

Higher mileage but 95, desirable year

5.8 in 1990 had e4od. They didn't put the AOD behind the 5.8. 89 and earlier had C6. 99.9% certain lol

Thanks for the help!

But I'm dead set on a 4th Gen.

I can find plenty of them in the range I've been looking, but the common problem I run into is it seems these guys just aren't really that interested in actually selling their trucks! They don't reply to emails or text or voicemail. I'm waiting reply on almost a half dozen trucks. :/
