I remember seeing an ad once for keyed locking devices that went over the nut on your shock mounting bolts in order to prevent theft. Is anyone else aware of these and know where I can find them?

Also, any other anti-theft ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Tack welded nuts have been the go to answer for my buddies. I even considered rattlecanning my shocks black to keep eyes off of em.

Years ago we had a banshee carefully backed out of our camp and then pushed 1/2 mile before an attempt by the thief to start it. It was obvious because the thief flooded it, and there was a dried fuel puddle. then continued to push it for another 600ft to a camp. The only way we found the bike was by getting very very lucky the wind didn't blow that night. I followed the tracks. We approached the bike in someone else's camp and attempted to start it to make a quick get away with what belonged to a guy in our group. Instead of starting right away within 3 kicks we found ourselves surrounded by 10 big guys and there was 3 of us. We explained what had happened and they said there was a guy in the middle of the night kicking and kicking then walked away from the bike. They said after a few hours of the bike sitting alone with no one to claim it they dragged it to their camp. ( sounded like a bs story to me but whatever) we were able to recover the bike. Point being shit heads catch you slipping on occasion and if you have what they want, they will attempt anything. This was at glamis so not real surprising.There's no such thing as theft proof, but more hassle than it's worth is a great deturant.

Yep, years ago at Glamis we started running a 30' cable through all the bikes and Gas can handles at night to lock things up.

Us too (cable lock) Of course banshee guy was the only one in our group who was too lazy to push his bike over and lock his bike up with the rest of ours. We told him repeatedly, he didn't want to listen. I think he learned his lesson. I couldn't imagine the sinking feeling of waking up to 2-4k worth of bypasses magically being gone. That would be a bad day.

Thievery has gotten worse with the passage of AB109 and Prop47 here in California. The land of giving away tax dollars and lenient criminal sentencing.

Left threaded bolts do a pretty damn good job keeping people who don't know about them from removing them. Fine thread bolt, cupped washer (McMaster-Carr, or some other supplier) and a locking lug nut would probably do the trick too, especially since it's too space constrained to hammer a 12pt socket onto.

...one could weld on some sort of bracket that necessitates the use of a very specific tool for removal (e.g you can only get a offset box wrench onto it or use a pre-rounded nut so a large pipe wrench is mandatory).

...safety wire adds and additional layer of complexity.

...red lok-tite requires heat to remove.

...it wouldn't be hard to make little brackets that prevent you from getting a tool on the bolts and then install the bracket with obscure security bits.

...using a very large (5/8" drive or T60) socket head cap screw in 6pt or Torx would stop most people, only people who do a lot of work on oil coolers and seat-belts would have those tools on hand in a tool-bag.

At the end of the day a lot of it comes down to being an obviously harder target than most everything else in the immediate vicinity.

Another thing to note is that if you look like white trash, white trash won't bother you (the pigs with guns and badges will instead).
