Random Stutter?

I was wondering if anyone can trouble shoot this issue as well, i appreciate your guys help! I have a 93 F-250 it has the 5.8 with the ZF 5 speed... This issue mainly happens when i'm cruising at a speed for a distance but will occasionally do it on the streets and such... The truck will just stutter/cut out real quick, its literally a split second thing... just cruising fine, cut out, then right back to normal... Its like everything just stops for literally half a second its off then right back on at the blink of an eye... and then as well this has only happened to me on the freeway but is another problem, just cruising fine no issues, then it'll just start sputtering and had no power... i then have to shut the truck off and re start it then its fine again for a little while, sometimes it doesn't do either of these and sometimes it does.... any thoughts?

Check the ignition switch on the column. They wear out or can fall apart. Same thing with the impact switch, I have had dirty contacts on those that caused insane head scratching. The throttle position sensor can also do some weird things but usually doesn't cause it to completely die, the other two can.

The ignition switches I have found to be available at all the local parts places and is reasonably priced. The impact switch is not and have had to hunt the junk yards.

I would love to have someone tell my why the cruise control occasionally kicks out when I use the turn signals on two of my 97 vintage trucks. Annoying!

It doesnt die it just does that.... and i know the thing that has the slider on it for when you turn your key and stuff mine isnt hooked up... its plugged in... but i have to use a push button to start my truck, ill try cleaning all the sensors, IAC, TPS, O2, etc... etc...

As for your problem... im totally unsure on that one...

Mine started doing that, then progressed....

If this progresses to the point that it happens when it dies as you are driving, or if it dies when you are pulling up to a light, always when warm, and you have a hard time restarting...this was the issue with mine and it was the PIP sensor in the distributor....replaced the distributor and all is good again.

I was thinking it might be the distributor... because on the long drives to cali and back towards the end it did it more than normal.... well looks like ill pull the distributor and see if that helps, thanks!

I had something similar happen right before Huckfest.....flame out under load and then right back on. No problems starting but did die a few times idling. A tech found bad/corroded plug wires and ignition module. I told him to change the plugs while he was at it.

Ok so should i do just a cap and rotor or whole distributor? Because it was bad this morning, stutter after stutter, then i kept having to shut it off because it did that bogging thing i described, all within a 15 minute drive to school!

For me, it was the PIP Sensor inside the distributor, not the cap/rotor

Do you have dual tanks? Does switching to the second one help?

Ohhh ok.... And i only run my front tank, there is no filler tube or cap on my second tank or some odd reason, so i only run my front....

Something Ignition Pickup ... You can search by Ignition Pickup/Stator http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/searc ... s%21stator

However, the only way to replace this (from what I read) is with a press to remove the cam gear, and disassemble the distributor ... hence the reason why I replaced the entire damn thing.

Yes, I would check/record your timing before you remove the old one... and at everyones suggestion I got motorcraft. I was told remans may not have the correct cam gear, and the sensor electronics might be subpar...

Ok thanks! and yeah i was definitely gonna get new, the ramanned ones are like 75 a new is 82 i wanna say plus i havve to bring my old one if for a core on the remaned one.

If you can get a new Motorcraft Distributor for $82...buy 2 of them!
