Black / Red Ring HID's on stock 92-96 front bumper

Post by nubreed71 »

I'm getting ready to put some of these on my rig, and from the looks of it, they may be almost too deep to mount on a stock front bumper. Has anyone here done it successfully? Got any pics?

I've seen a few broncos with holes in the grill for the back of the light housing.

That's what I was afraid of...was hoping to mount these without modifying the grille. Sounds like a bolt on light bar might be my best option.

Or you can make a couple small mounts to move them out a bit and bolt the mount to the bumper :)

Or sell them and buy an LED light bar and you would have zero issues

I was thinking of something to this effect ( I'm aware this is an f250). This idea but flat bolt on plates to the front face of the bumper.

Don't take this for gospel, but I've HEARD the stock bumper with the weight of lights like that bounces around pretty good in the dirt.

Isn't it bolted on? How's it going to move?

Because it's essentially sheet metal. There's no real structure to that bumper. The superduty has the bar bolted to the frame horns, which isn't a problem.

I have the same super duty KC bar pictured above. It works ok. The mounting point is good. It is the same as the tow hooks so pretty solid. Unfortunately the flat connectors side plates between the good mounting point and a decent bar need some work. Not sure if it was intentional but the logo is lasered in the weak spot and it doesnt take a big bump ( read not a nerf bar) to kink it back. I need to put new plates on mine now and some gussets and it will be pretty stout. I think if you chose your mounting points right you could make one bolt to the bumper metal fine without too much jiggle. My lights were just for cow/deer spotting on highways.

could possible make a bar if you have access to a bender. the kc bar looks great, but if it has a weak spot thats not good. those lights cost a good bit of hard earned cash. good luck

But ultimately decided to scrap the HID's and go with an LED bar. Problem solved! Anyone wanna buy some Hella 4000 HID's?

I've got four of them. 2 pencil, 2 euro beam....all 4 with brand new covers. I've also got security nuts for all 4 to keep the folks with sticky fingers at bay. PM me and we can talk details.
