Hey guys,

Back from 5 weeks in India, how I miss the good ol USA !

My tranny guy didnt install my rear 4.56 gears because of clearence issues. Does this sound right ? I had installed 4.56 in 2001 F-150 many years ago with no issuess (different rearend i know)

His e-mail to me...

"The housing is too small to accomadate the gears you want. as it sits now we've got a 1/4 clearance top and bottom. You currently have a ratio of 3:55 Non posi. Biggest ratio based on housing dimension would be a 3:73 and would suggest a limited slip carrier."

Does this sound right ? I see 4wheelparts carries gears that fit into a 8.8 rear end.

thanks

Seems lazy, I had 4:88 in an 8.8 and I know you can fit 5:14 in there as well with some clearancing.

Yeah seams lazy. You cant go off of clearance of the 3.55 because it isnt whats going in. 8.8 gears specific to the 8.8 will fit or they wouldnt sell them. Ive also seen 4.88's in an 8.8. Tell him also 4.10's came stock in some so hes way off with the 3.73 info. If it were me i would take it to a rear end/ driveline specific shop where thats all they do.

Any axle code with a letter before the number is LS. Any axle code that is just numbers is open.
