This is interesting.

I am more interested in the large spline options.

I've talked to Carl and the 50 Combined with a Load Bolt and RCV shafts would make the D44-TTB a viable drive axle on 37" tires the Ball joint and the spindle become the weak areas.
If I was going to build a TTB Bronco that is what I would do... But I'm not, so look at all the money I saved

I think the Jana upgrades are awesome but I'm thinking it'd be easier on a ttb set up to just put the 50 housing in right? unless your serious about watching weight. On a solid axle it's a no brainer awesome upgrade though.

Getting a bolt on retained center for a 50 is hard... I'm not sure they exist. I have not seen one.
Also, I referred to it for the axle upgrade options... which you can't do on a 44 and not much is known about for 50s.

Yes they exist. 1980-1982 F350 4x4 used D50 ttb with bolt-in stub axle. I have a few of them (the D50 bolt in stub axles, not the diffs) and built my new class 3 using them.

I was under the impression the F350 4x4's were leaf sprund solid axle Dana 60's from 1980 and up. Did you mean F250? Or did I just learn something new?!
EDIT: A quick google search indicated I just learned something and you are indeed right! That said, I agree with Steve. "GOOD TO KNOW!" Thanks.

Yeah - I found out a couple years ago that's why the d60 kingpin front axles were 78/79 and then 87-94. I never got the '87 thing until I looked and found out F-350's from 80-86 had the D50 TTB front. I had always thought it was just the F-250's that had these like they did in the '87-97 configuration.

F350:
80-82 leaf spring D50 ttb with bolt-in stub axle
83-86 leaf spring D50 ttb with c-clip stub axle
87-98 leaf spring D60 solid axle
F150/Bronco:
80-82 coil spring D44 ttb with bolt-in stub axle
83-96 coil spring D44 ttb with c-clip stub axle
Not so sure about the F250. Some years there was both an F250 and an F250HD.
And then there is a HD-D44 ttb and a regular D44 ttb. I think the HD version is 8 bolt and uses larger spindle/hub/brakes but not sure.
And I'm also not sure about leafs vs coils for F250 ttb setups over the years. Maybe someone could fill that in.

I have never seen coils on an F250 TTB, 44HD or 50.
Dana 44HD uses 44 ball joints, larger spread, but same snout size on the spindle with 8 bolts holding it on. Beams/pivots are the same as 50 with the exception of the lower ball joint taper.

Can you fit either 5 lug or 8 lug hubs on that 8 bolt 44HD spindle?

The index ring for the spindle to knuckle is the same other than having an 8 bolt pattern vs the 5/6 the regular 44 has. I can not remember if the outer axles are the same. I know the outer bearing the same between the 44 & 44HD but I think the inner is slightly larger on the HD. It might be able to be done with the correct bearing combination.

Just curious, am I able to put a d50 center section into a d44 TTB? I know the dimensions are similar and bolt pattern on the diff is the same. Would I be able to use d44 inner axles or do I have to use the d50 inner axles.

Yes fits on the arm, you may need the passenger side stub shaft for the dana 50. But this also gives you the larger center u-joint. I think the splines on that side of the diff are different, or the seal is. I got the stub because of the larger u-joint anyways and do not recall the details.
I have a 4.10 dana50 3rd member in my 92 bronco right now, though and it has been working great

Have the 50 also with 4.88 and bolt in stub shaft. All good here as well.

If you have any travel, you will want to run the 44 center section. By the time you clear, if you can get it cleared for over 16 inches of travel, that chunky 50 center u joint it is weaker than the cleared 44 center u joint. IMO

Philo the Dana 44HD uses the same upper bearing and larger lower bearing like the 50 on the snout. I have attach Pic side by side of Dana 50 and Dana 44HD

The second Picture is of Dana 60 and Dana 44 ....as Philo has educated me in past years Dana 60 and Dana 50 are 95% the same. so this gives you a idea on all 3 ford TTB snouts.

Sorry Philo I did not see this before my post...on the inner bearing
