Fuel Lines

Ok so I am having a problem with finding replacement fuel lines for my 1990. I replaced my sending unit, and while trying to get the tank in place, it fell and both the preasure and return line fittings broke where they conect to the tank.

I have tried both repair kit options that Autozone/Kragen caries. From what I understand both lines are 5/16, then the fitting on the return line is 5/16, but the preasure fitting is 3/8... the repair kits come with only 5/16 fittings...

I have also tried calling Ford to just get factory replacements, but they no longer make them, and none of the autopart stores cary actual replacement lines. I was going to make my own replacements, but the tank has the special Ford fittings, and I don't want to drop the coin to replace the whole fuel system with AN style fittings and lines.

Does anyone know where I can maybe get the fittings, or have lines made, or any way I can fix this problem? I am hesitant to go to the junk yard and pull lines, I don't like the idea of putting old plastic lines on my Bronco, not knowing the condition they are in... Any and all help is appreciated!!!! I know you said you're not sure you want to pull lines, but I've got one of the lines here - off this '87. I just threw away the other line that I cut when pulling the motor because my tool for removing those "special" (read: annoying) clips for the Fords wasn't working and I got impatient. I did cut off and keep the other end on the thing around just in case.

For a few bucks I can send you the things and you can either use the ends or the line or whatever.

Well if you got it off, I might just have to live with is to get this thing running, then find a more perminant fix down the road. I was actually able to ghetto fix the return line because the fitting on the tank is the 5/16 just like the repair kit, but I am at a loss for the preasure line, which one do you have?

Even if you just have a segmant from the preasure line I can splice it into what I have. I have a splice from the kit that did not work, which should allow me to use what you got. Let me know what you have, I'll send you whatever you want, I need to get this back on the road as it is my DD...

On a side note, has anyone ever replaced their facotry lines with all AN stuff? What is involved in the conversion. Sitting here at my desk, and not looking I am gussing I will need the following:

- Weld AN fittings on the tank
- Aftermarked fuel filter
- Aftermarket fuel preasure regulator
- Weld AN fittings on the fuel rails
- Various pushlock fittings and lines

Anything else? Suggestions on brands of specific parts? I have a small hookup on getting fittings and rubber lines, just not sure what filter and regulator...

Not positive what I have and now bummed I finally tossed the other line on Monday. I won't know til I hit the shop tonight and I'm leaving from there to head out of town.

IF (not sure it's possible) I can get up there around lunch I'll look at what I've got and grab the stuff a box just in case. Then I could most likely get it in the mail today.

PM me your shipping address just in case I can pull that off. Again - no promises due to my work schedule for today being kind of up in the air - but I'll try.

Box went out. Hit the post office 5 min before they closed so timing just worked out! The guy there is cool with me and let the thing go through even though he smelled fuel. He just warned me if others smelled it they may stop the thing. Hopefully it makes it...

Oh and sorry for cutting you off while on the phone - my boss was on the other line calling in so I had to cut it kinda quick.

You should have the thing by tomorrow or Saturday if it goes through and I'll be back Monday (going to San Fran this weekend) and I can check in on in then.

No worries about the phone, and thank you so much for rushing that out!!! If I don't get it this weekend I'll let you know.

On a side note, I think I figured out a long term fix. I found a company that makes a 3/8 fitting to 3/8 line, and a 5/16 fitting to 3/8 line. That will allow me to conect to the tank, and the filter and have 3/8 line in between. Stock is 5/16, but the slightly bigger 3/8 shouldn't be a problem and will allow me to have a continuous line. Just need to order these parts up and wait. Will 100% be using Steves parts though to get this going, thanks again!!!!!

Ya, got the parts on Sat! Forgot to let you know. But ya you did send me the correct parts, you had fittings in both sizes. I am going to get some new nylon line today so that I can put everything back together. Once I get everything all hooked up I plan on putting some PN and pictures up in case others find themselves in this dilemma! Thanks again for everything Steve!!!!

Oh ya, the box smelled like gas soo bad, I can't believe it made it to my house...

It's alive!!! Got the Bronco moving again today!!! Was debating on putting it together with misc. parts, or to wait for parts to make all new. Then got an email today that parts wouldn't be here until next week... Motivated me to do both... I went ahead and cut the floor while the tank was down, made tabs to put the peace back in, got the tank back up and Frankinstein lines installed. Now I can drive again, and when parts get here I will be able to easily change! A lot if work, but worth it.

Oh ya, and icing on the cake, fuel gauge works!!! It was all worth it. I will post pictures tomorrow!!

One more thing, thanks again Steve, got it moving because of you sending parts!!!
