PSOM problem

Post by Conejoracer »

My 92 Bronco with 272K on it is acting up. The speedo/odo went out once, and it did the hard shifting thing. The next morning it was fine again. A month later it has done it again, but seems permanently dead now. I pulled the vss and replaced it because it showed some damage, but it did not fix the problem. I should also mention that after the first failure, a "blem" appeared in the lower right corner of the odo display. It looks like some type of short damage to the display? I'm looking at replacing the PSOM now. I believe it is the same from 92 to 96 for all F trucks? The local wrecking yards are telling me there is a difference and the 94-96 PSOM's will not work. Does anybody have any idea's on what I should check next, and any info on what PSOM I can use?

If I'm correct its because of the different setup mass air and such. I do think they are different.
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

Clusters are different but you can swap just the speedo head into your cluster from a tach or non tach 92-96 cluster.

Remember to reprogram it to your tire size and reluctor ring.

I installed a used cluster ($47-shipped, thanks ebay) and it solved all of the problems. Funny thing too, the transmission works better than ever. I guess while the speedo may have been working before, the signal for the transmission was not the best. Either way, it runs great again.
