Ok, I ran JBA shorty headers on my Bronco 302. I have a set of 351w JBA headers that I planned to run. Now that I don't have to worry about the biannual smog, I was thinking about long tube headers.
I have to rebuild the engine cage anyway, so mocking up with the headers would be a good time to make a decision.
Have any of you done the swap to long tube headers and what do you think of them?
What specs would you recommend? I'm thinking 7/8" flange and 3" exist to dual 3" stainless exhaust.
What would you recommend?

7/8" flange? Dang!
Kritter has a super healthy 408 in his Bronco. I don't recall the headers being anything over the top. His also has single exhaust... and it rips! I'm suuuuper happy with the Magnaflow system on Wilson.

Re: Headers for a stroker 408w.
Right now, I am debating on pulling the trigger on a Dart Block and a 427w stroker kit. I was given a price of $4500 for the kit and the Dart Block. Both are new, but have been sitting in the garage and were from a project that never happened. I am shooting for a 550hp range with the torque around the same. I'm thinking of AFR Renegade 220cc heads with 58cc combustion chambers to keep the compression around 10 to 1. On paper with 42 injectors, I should be closer to 590hp. The plan is to have it dyno tuned to get the most out of the setup and keep it pump gas friendly. It will see a lot of sand dune time with paddle tires at Glamis. I plan to run 35" 8 scoop paddles in the rear and 35" Desert Master sand tires up front. I have a Detroit Locker in the rear and a ARB locker or a Eaton Mechanical Limited slip for the front. I already have both sitting in the garage. In Baja my open diff did fine , but a locker up front with Paddle tires would be nice and on the odd occasions a locker up front would be nice for rock crawling. I did Lion's Back many years ago in Moab Utah in the Bronco and the Detroit Locker did great. There were a few places a front locker would have been nice.
My thought is to run dual Canister air filters with cool air intake up front and 4 inch tube from the filter to a dual inlet plenum on the 1450 throttle body to a Edlebrock Super Victor MPFI intake. I have a Holley Terminator X MPFI system for it.
Then that is where the long tube headers and dual 3" exhaust comes in. I want to run dual SpinTech Mufflers out to the rear passenger side exit. I would like to keep the noise down and fumes out of the cab when I take the top off. I don't want to have to run headsets all the time with a intercom.
So that is what the Bronco will be doing. Basically a trailer queen to the desert and a Luxury Prerunner, dune Bronco with 4 seats, AC and heating.
I am also debating on having my AOD built with a reverse manual valve body and having the gear ratio upgraded to wide ratio. I don't know if the reverse manual valve body makes the AOD Basically a 4 speed. Anyone know? Or I will have the C6 I have upgraded to a reverse manual valve body. I want the manual valve body to help the transmission run cooler. I will be running dual transmission coolers with fan's under the rear quarter panels with side scoops to bring in fresh air. I also have a 4 core aluminum radiator with dual 16" spal electric fan's. I have had a ruff time keeping the 302 and AOD cool in the dunes, so with a bigger motor I am doing all I can to keep it cool. I am even running a bigger Engine oil cooler up front and a bigger Power steering cooler in line and ditching the stock cooler on the steering if you can call that tubing on the cross member a cooler. I will be running a 2010 Superduty Hydroboost and Master cylinder with a Howe pump and a ram assist swing set steering system.
With all that, I want to have the engine flowing air well in and out and run cool in the summer in the dunes with running the AC. My 1999 F350 7.3L diesel crew cab with stock gears and 37 inch tires is fun at Glamis in the summer with the AC blowing and it only has a 45,000 GVWR transmission cooler and stock cooling system. It gets a little warm when going up and Oldsmobile Hill a couple times in 4 low wide open. My hope is the Bronco will always run cool with the AC blowing in 100°+ weather.
This is my last big build of my own and I want to do it properly the first time, not constantly chasing problems like I did the first 32 years I had my Little Mule Pepe. He is getting a new old school look, suspension and power. No more struggling with a under powered motor and over heating transmission. It did well jumping in the dunes and going fast in Baja, but struggled with long uphill stuff and the deep silt beds.
With my house remodel reaching completion and selling off my old RV and soon to sell my 1998 Z28 convertible and 1986 Honda TRX250R, I will have the fund's to put towards the Bronco. Thanks to some friends, I will get to make some progress this year, even with my severely herniated disc in my lower back.
Sorry for the long post.
I hope you are all doing well. I hope to get it in the dirt next year and make it out to a Score race.
