Cruise control hack

I have a 72 Bronco with a 351w that has no provision for cruise control. It is getting a throttle body like the old carbs 4150 mount. I was thinking of using the old choke on the dash to hold the throttle for a long on street section, I know it is not as safe a normal setups, but what do you think?

Is there any easy retrofit? I am running f350 hydro power brakes and a Terminator x MPFI and a Edlebrock Super Victor MPFI intake.

I'm only just now seeing this. A guy that I know accessed the CC portion of the SEFI ECU that he used on his EB so that it has Cruise Control. He is also the first that I know of to have gone to EDIS back in the early 2000's. That doesn't help you since you're not SEFI.

Using the choke controller might be OK, it's been done before for decades, but it is inherently unsafe. Can also use the old school crawler trick of using a bicycle friction shifter assembly to create a "mechanical cruise control." It too, is inherently unsafe.

I will be putting a digital Dakota gauge cluster and they have a cruise control ad on option. I think that is the route I will be going.

Agreed Thom- you're giving a middle finger to the Gods of Mechanical Shit- a blow out at 55mph on a 2 lane highway turns to terror the second you can't get the throttle to shut down
