What have you dropped in?

Found an awesome deal on craigslists yesterday, maybe my first bronco (all though I have loved them my whole life ), the engine in it is seized though but everything else is really great condition (at least visually). So lets hear it, what to drop in, where to get it from, and how much? Thanks in advance.

A drop in motor? Go with a 351 based motor. I have apreferance to a 393 stroker but you can build a great 351 with a mild cam change,some head work and headers. Or go witha crate motor 351 and have enough power to get you in trouble and ve reliable.

If money is not a problem the new ford 6.2 direct injection motor. The one that's going to be in the new raptor if they make it. If you want to be realistic a crate 5.0 or 5.8 either one.

I put a Jasper rebuilt 5.8L with a stock roller cam. I love it. Perfect idle, great low and mid range torque.

I've got a 351W SVO Crate Motor. I just did a rebuild on it, and I haven't got to run it yet. Before the rebuild it was there 345hp motor, and with 4.56 gears and 35" tires it was a kick in the pants. PLENTY of power to control the attitude of the vehicle.

Junkyard solution: Find a good roller 351w (f4te block) and, some gt40 heads of a 93-95 lightning (or a 5.0 explorer of the right year, will require redrilling headbolt holes) and intake/exhuast of your choice. I don't have crate money so this is the route I went. Of course I don't have it together, in, or running

my bronc came factory with 302 (asmathic 1983 version)
then i got a 5.0HO from a mustang..
then i put some go fast parts in it..
then i went for the 351W.

my stock 351W had more low than my
two previous 302 ever had
(yes, i know 5.0HO from stang is meant to revvv and sure it did once the truck got moving and reached 2500rpm)

High RPM's are nice

but Torque moves the world..


so, i would go for a 351W based with a good low to mild rpm power gain cam configuration..
put some GT40's are ua re done...for a while

I dropped in an ATK direct-replacement engine into my '93. That way, I was absolutely sure it would stay CA smog legal. Added aftermarket intake, headers, and exhaust system to help it breathe better, as well as an MSD ignition to make it more efficient...but other than that, have left this fresh motor pretty stock--and reliable. I'll admit, I'm hungry for a little more power. Have been thinking that nitrous might be fun for blasting around in the dunes.

I see your location shows San Diego, you are going to have to drop in what ever was factory if you ever plan on smogging it for street use.
