Hey guys,
I've got a 99 Expedition with the 5.4, Eddie Bauer, full time 4x4, air ride suspension. The truck has about 210,000 and still runs really well but the front end wallows badly. I put new bilsteins on the rear and that calmed things down in back. The front set up is air strut and torsion bar.
I would like to replace the air ride system with conventional stuff but don't want to get into a full blown Dixon Brothers or similar set up.
I'd like to get it up an inch or two, maybe do front fiberglass, gears and a bigger tire. It will get used for chasing and general dicking around. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Re: 99 Expedition suspension
The crap that this suspension is, is a BIG reason I dumped my 2001 expediton. The thing was an oversized minivan and wasn't working as the "truck" I bought it for and wanted it to be.
That being said before I dumped it I was briefly looking into messing with the air shocks to change ride height. Might be something to look into.

You might be able to move the sensor mounts to increase ride-height a small amount. Maybe one of the spacer kits would work?
I don't know much about them.

Re: 99 Expedition suspension
After looking around it appears swapping standard coils in the back isn't that big a deal and maybe a spacer in with the coil. The air suspension definitely needs to go.
I found a company called Strutmasters that makes a replacement coilover shock for the front and coils that replace the rear air bags. Maybe add some torsion keys. Chasetruck your right about it being pretty crappy for what we like to do. The Strutmaster stuff will probably work fine for the normal grocery getter usage but I'm a bit leary about pounding down dirt roads on those front coils. This is a case of already owning a truck, knowing the history, etc.
I'm still building my 80 flareside for the more serious stuff. Here are a couple shots of the F 100.

Nice! FYI, you got a killer deal on that glass. What you paid for all three pieces would have bought you one of those fenders brand new. Ask me how I know, lol. Start a build thread on the flare side and keep the pics coming.

Re: 99 Expedition suspension
The truck was slammed when I picked it up with no 3rd gear or reverse and puking tranny fluid. Its straight with no rust and had a 302 from a 79 or so LTD in it. I had an 83 bronco with a 351W. I swapped motors and sold the bronco with the 302. The Bronco was pretty clean but I always wanted a Flareside. I'm in a bit over my head on this build as its my first one. I've got a couple friends helping me out.
I bought an Art Carr manual reverse valve body C6 so now I'm working on figuring out shifter mount, cable route, the list is pretty endless but you guys know all about that.
