Putting togeter a TTB
Andy (Silverslk) is giving me the old beam housings out of his bronco. I am going to need to round up the rest of the parts to get it put together and into my Cherokee. I have a detroit locker for the 3rd, and will regear, so I was thinking about the bolt on axle deal instead of the c-clip, or does it even matter? I guess a lot of you are having good luck with the spring in the slip yoke. Also, I need to re-use my Chevy hubs because my junk is 6 lug. Will the Chevy spindles work on the 6 bolt knuckles? This will be my first TTB experience, so any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Good luck and can't wait to see you get this done!! Hopefully Philo or someone will chime in here with some help. I know he posted a thread about which years have which but hasn't expressed what he would do if building it (rather than it coming in our rig already). haha

Dan, chk the Orange County Craigslist ads. There is a Dana 44 on there out of a 82 Bronco with 4.10 gears on it. I believe the fact that is an 82 would make it the one with the bolt on instead of the c clip.
Not sure about the whole 6 lug stuff.

Check out the Solo Holiday Special thread. For what solo is selling their C&T beams for I wouldn't bother doing it on my own.

Re: Putting togeter a TTB
Cool project I am looking forward to seeing this move forward....with regards to the front axles I have not seen any real problems with them up front. IMO its not worth the headache of converting but if you do doing it form the start is the way to go while everything is torn apart.loosenutdan wrote:Andy (Silverslk) is giving me the old beam housings out of his bronco. Re: Putting togeter a TTB
I'm not sure I'll need to C&T them. I have to make the crossmember and pivot mounts, and I want to keep the jeep as low as possible. (lower than it is now.) I think if I need to, I'll cut the pivots like one of the other guys did.ESHALLBETTER wrote:Check out the Solo Holiday Special thread. Anyone know how wide the TTB's are at stock ride height, WMS-WMS?

I think (not positive) the snouts will bolt to the Ford knuckles. If not, you could have the snout re-drilled with the Ford pattern.loosenutdan wrote:Also, I need to re-use my Chevy hubs because my junk is 6 lug. Will the Chevy spindles work on the 6 bolt knuckles?

That sounds promising! Hopefully the chevy rotors will line up with the Ford calipers.SteveG wrote:I think (not positive) the snouts will bolt to the Ford knuckles. Re: Putting togeter a TTB
I just measured mine and came up with 66" WMS to WMS. Stock width C&T beams.

Re: Putting togeter a TTB
Cool, thanks Philo! I need to figure out what all I'll need, and maybe we can hook up at the Parker race in Feb?? You have a stock crossmember with the mounts on it, so I can have something to compare and take measurements from?philofab wrote:I have the parts you need.
So Andy and I are working on a deal for that 3rd member from the Craigslist ad. It should be the bolt in axle version. Is that the route I should go, or does it matter?
