96 gas cap

Post by PaulW »

Is the 96 gas cap sealed? Meaning does air go in or vapor out?

Under normal operating conditions the cap should be completely sealed.

Why do you ask?

Steve,
Thanks, That is good news. I have given up on my big gas tank and will have Glen fab one that is mostly above the floor. This is to give me extra clearance form the SF rocks that are a result of the racers big tires.
Anyway the new filler has to be just below the window on the fender. The hot rod and marine people have the flanged sealed filler neck/cap. Still have not bought the filler/cap. Still dithering (as usual). Line size is the next question along with the fil vent.

Tank dsign is done and includes the internal sumps as before which will still be in the drop down below the floor.

I suspected it was a sealed cap because the vent goes to the Charcol canister and tank intake comes from a hose that goes to the tip over valve.

I will post the details after the task is done.

That's what I figured you were doing. A couple notes that might be of use: The O.E. cap will vent (out) if too much pressure builds in the tank. The system is designed to have the rollover valve vent that goes to the canister.

I replaced my RO valve when I trashed my first stock tank because it had been messes up by the PO when he replaced the pump. RO has 2 lines, one goes to the cannister the other is a vent line. What I found was what the Ford manual said it should be. Vent line was full of silt so I put a small plastic gas filter on it. I left it on top of the tank to the rear. I just assumed it was the suction line for the tank.

I will let you know when its out. It will not include the $res/trap and the 2 pumps$ which I will reuse. That means you will have to deal with that internal stuff.

Interested to see it all done. I have 2 large dents in my gas tank skid plate from only a few hundred miles prerunning/screwing around offroad.

My new tank concept would be hardly possible without the stretch. Todd has a fuel cell in his bronco with a small stretch and stock frame/custom bedsides. Don't remember his details. Anyway he has very little volume remaining for stuff. Brian (BDKW1) can supply the Todd details. Todd & Brian helped with B500. Sorry I forgot last names.
Bottom line IMO, is any tank above the floor has a very limited application for most Broncos.
Tanks are the victums of desirable suspension up travel and how the Baja roads are being eroded. Guys with stock tanks are complining and repairing/replacing. My original concept was a strong skid. No workee.

My designs were thought out and now I learn from experience. Spend, spend.

No worries Paul, I'm still interested. And I can always stop by Glen's to pick it up when it's off your Bronco.

Gas tank dents are us! I've only had to pull my new NWMP tank once to press the dents out of it. Doubled up the skid plates and secured them better. Will see how it holds up now.

Many of those rare aluminum coated rocks you find in the middle of nowhere are mine!
