Re: NORRA Race
Hi, I am writing far away, but I would like to be present at this historic event. I have avalaible flights to Mexicali, but I would like to know if there is some way to chase the race, or a bus service from Mexicali to La Paz to be present also at the finish. Thanks ========= Your best bet is to ho...

Re: E4OD Shifter
School me on aftermarket shifters. What are you using? PW Use a winters with a micro switch so you just slap forward to 3rd and then can slap it to the right that kicks it into OD via microswitch. Thats what I plan on doing. = Correct. In fact I could live with a dash/console switch. I did find htt...

Re: ECM Protection
Mine uses the stock plastic inner fender liner extended with 1/8" black plastic to the lip in the glass fender. The assembly is held up to the fender brace with fat zip ties. In the pic you can see where the 35" tire rubs the smooth plastic at full compression. Works fine with the inboard exhaust.

The story is written by Baja-Chris in an email to myself and Toddz. Some time ago. I use the fat tie rod and Chris has gone to a super crossover setup built by Glen.

Re: Max tire on TTB
Just make sure you have forged wheels. Not availble last time inquired for the 40" and the cast wheels wont hold up. 37x17 are available.

Re: Max tire on TTB
One thing I forgot to mention is the guys runnig 37s with D44 TTB are using BFG projects. It is a tougher tire, heavier, but with a low traction tread. Not likely you will like it. The reason trophy trucks like the projects is the reduced traction and less breakage on the drive train. They work good...

Re: 5speed vs. Automatic
In my life I never had an automatic. And thats a long time and lots of vehicles. Now I have a desert prerunner and a serious Jeep trail rig and a serious EB trail rig. All 3 have automatics. Sticks have no place for the use these vehicles are intended. With a stick you will just grind and bitch abou...

Re: Max tire on TTB
No problem with 37s/D44/460-500rHp. Heater mod required and taller springs than with 35s. With big tires and you rock crawl or jump you will break the u-joints and/or diff. We seldom use 4wd with the big tires.
Usual upgrades include 5/8" studs and forged wheels.

Re: Anyone thought about an iPad as best new Nav device?
Solid state mem is great. IMO, tread slowley until the GPS engine gets defined and we find out whos background map is compatible and find out what functions are used. Very important. Most likely you will be stuck with Garmin stuff whch we trail makers and desert people hate. The used military & law ...

For the race I will be at RM56 at the road crossing. Easy access stop by. I had the job of marking from 110 to the finish. Did the darn track 3 times. I also made the track o from Morelia south on both new tracks. Much more and still doing odd jobs. I will head for the finsih line at Ck1 close arou...

Google "model # frequency modifications" that should get you a HAM site with detailed mod instuctions. Done that for several radios with success.

Thanks for the tips...I found 5/8-18 inverted flare to be the size at the radiator but it has some recessed BS so im not sure if I am going to find any adapters other than some I found online that go to a barbed fitting. http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Ford-Radiator-Adapter-Kit-5-8-18-Inverted-...

Re: E4OD tranny pans / Coolers
What size and type of thread/fitting are the hardlines into the radiator? ==== 5/16" I use steel brake lines from NAPA. Easy to bend by hand. Then make my own bead ends. You can splice stock metal to steel or AL with compression fittings. Use the fittings at the tranny or rad that Ford supplied. At...

Re: E4OD tranny pans / Coolers
No intent to disparage Brad. The physics of more fluid and a bigger pan is apparently mis understood. What extra fluid does is simply provide a time delay before the fluid reaches that high temp limit. The extra fins and extra surface area does provide a bit of cooling, however rememberr the heat fr...

Re: E4OD tranny pans / Coolers
Aftermarket pans: Why? They serve nofunctional improvement. If they stick lower they are really bad. If they do not have the off road sump then also bad. Extra volume is no solution for heat Coolers are the solution. They look nice until that big rock kills them. Coolers: All aftermarket coolers use...

Paul, can the hand-held Lowrance units be operated with a PC? ====== It wll not work as a plugin for a PC. You can buy other brands that do that, but they definately do not have full GPS features. What we do with Lowrance is move trail files back and forth computer to computer. Then use the SD card...

My rebuild bearing/seal kit + new chain cost $180 + 7 hours labor. Try a used one. A complete as new rebuild go for $650 + shipping. Going used. Don't even mess with one that is a leaker. Crack the thing apart and examine the bearings, seals, and chain, & Clean the filter. If you like what you find ...
