Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I just wrapped up a little subwoofer mounting project. I remember back to my high school days when I had a sub put in and the installer just ran some screws right through the carpet and back wall of my cab, and vowed never to let that happen to this truck, so had to make a little MDF mounting rack t...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Agreed...so far I'm really happy with the upgrade. Way more noticeable than I thought it was gonna be.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Punisher valve body installed, and pretty trans pan to top it off. I had a valve body on my '94, but that was an AOD-E, so the valve body was from Broader Performance, and I have to say, the difference is a lot more noticeable with the Punisher. I'm loving the nice firm shifts! https://live.staticfl...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Head unit is stationary...doesn't retract. I haven't noticed the display moving during on-road driving, but the display itself is fairly thin. Most of the weight is in the portion that slides into the single-din opening of the dash. If there is substantially more weight in your Lowrance unit, you ma...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Good call on the switch panels, I didn't even think of that. That would be pretty slick. I already did the switch panel to the left of the stereo, so that ship has kind of already sailed for me, but that would be pretty awesome. I'm still chasing some gremlins with the subwoofer and would like to ge...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
This is the F259. My understanding is that the main difference is that the F309 has HDMI inputs, which opens it up to a lot more stuff. The other one that I just learned about is that you can't customize the opening splash screen on the F259 which kinda bummed me out. I really wanted to run that For...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Haha, thank you sir! I've had friends lovingly refer to it as "tweakin on the weekend". I certainly have a tendency to get wrapped up in a lot of silly little details, but I guess it keeps me entertained.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Well, just when I said I was gonna keep this build old school, I went and threw this stereo in that's completely not old school....but damn I love this thing. Pretty cool to have a 9" touchscreen with a backup cam and CarPlay in a 23 year old truck. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50183141676_c2...

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I finally got around to getting the skidplate down to the polisher to have it cleaned up and then just for giggles, had him throw a brushed finish on there. Pretty psyched with how it came out. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50155379708_ee27a123ce_k.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50155...

Bilstein 7100 10" Shortbody Shocks - AK7110SB05 - New
I recently picked these up with the intention of running them on the rear of my truck, but am going back and forth wanting to run 2.5's instead. These are brand new in the box, only removed from the box so that I could trim the resi hose clamps and add heat shrink. Comes with the heim spacers, as we...

Refurbishing OEM Side Mirrors
In my never-ending quest to clean up my crewcab, the side mirrors were a source of annoyance because NOS OEM side mirrors are just about impossible to come by these days, and the aftermarket China specials end up fading and the chrome pitting in less than 2-3 months. After one of my China side mirro...

Re: 1990 Ford150 4x4 "Bajamobile"
I think I ran 350/450 on my '94 extracab. 250/350 seems light.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Yep, kinda exactly where I'm leaning Will. OEM+ is a great term for this build, and yeah, I do believe that the coil buckets definitely keep that theme going, but add capability. If I could get this thing in the 13-14" travel range front and rear, I think it would be plenty capable for the occasiona...

Lol Jim, you have a point. Sensible and building off-road trucks doesn't exactly mix.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Combo of both. I really just wanted them since they allow for a longer stroke/larger diameter shock, but the coil adjustability is just an added bonus.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Yep, you hit the nail right on the head. Plenty of proven trucks running coils. Look at John's '75 spare parts truck...still on coils and he drives the piss out of that thing. To make things even more interesting, I've been offered a really sweet deal on a new set of Autofab adjustable coil buckets....
