TTB vs. THE WORLD (AKA differences between Ford TTB axles)

Are the 2wd and 4wd pivot brackets the same on the F250's like they are on the F150's? I have read every thread I can find about TTB's on FSB, Pirate, DR, Race-Dezert and several other sites. Just a few more details to work out so I can start the build on the front end of mine!

The 2wd F250 & F350 shares pivots with the 2 & 4wd F150.

The TTB F350 & F250 use the same pivots regardless if it was a 44HD or D50.

The D50 and D60 solid axles had no provision for pivots.

I don't have a scale to weigh them with... It would interesting to know.

If it is under 300lbs I use a cheap bathroom scale. If the part is under 100lbs, I just grab it and step on the scale, then subtract out my weight.

It was actually mid 87 to mid 88 on those. I have seen both years with both types of spindles.

Want to sell the shorties? I could use a few more spares as I made a bunch of aluminum hubs for those years ago. I have 3 people still running them and no spares.........

the 1987 spindles, hubs, knuckles and rotors are spoken for and will be used in future projects and for R&D due to the unique nature of this limited use application.

My question is what is the interchangability of TTB beams & knuckle/spindles of 1980 - 1996 Broncos and F150's?

I want to go to pull and save and find some beams to cut and turn.

I did a few searches trying to find the answer, but came up empty handed.

The spindles themselves (snouts - not the uprights/knucles most people refer to as spindles) are what comes to mind. There is a 5 and a 6 bolt pattern as well as different steps in them for seals, etc.

There is a pic floating around here on somewhere that shows a bit of the difference in the snouts.

So do hubs interchange on snouts with the correct bearings?

As for Bronco/F150 TTB beams, they are all the same?

I believe the beams themselves are all the same between the d44's found on the broncos & f-150's. The early years had the bolt on axles vs. c-clip, but aside from that center sections are the same I believe too.

Never tried swapping the hubs onto different year snouts by changing bearings so I can't help you there. Maybe when Philo gets back from the 500 he can chime in.

Beams are all the same between Broncos and F150s.

Hubs can all interchange with the exception of later ABS have a little bit more machining for the reluctor ring. If you don't need ABS it does not matter.

Spindles need to match knuckles. There are two bolt patterns five and six bolt. There are several differences in the five bolt spindles, ABS and Non ABS, as well as inner bearing and seal differences.

Old thread but this seems like the best place to pass on this information.

I have confirmed with ARB tech that their new D50 locker -RD158- can be converted with their Side Gear Set 728 HO31 (bolt in, no modification required) to set the locker up for 35 spline axles.

The 81-82 diff case (non c-clip design) can be modified with Timken LM29749 and LM29710 cup and cone to allow a 1.5" shaft. Although the cup shows it's a little larger than the stock cup, it tapped right in. The stock cup actually just flopped in the bore but had never spun. The new cup is .10 narrower than the stock cup and cone and doesn't have the funky little retainer ring on the cup but I believe they can be made to work. It appears 83+ cases are going to be more problematic as the needle bearing they use is much smaller od and the case might have to be over bored.

I have asked several custom axle shaft manufacturers about modifying a D60/70 35 spline raw cm forging to fit as the diff stub. Looks like it will work but waiting for final replies.

It was suggested in an earlier post that a 1480 trans slip yoke could be used for the slip joint. Problem is everyone I have looked at the angularity is minimal (ears are too short). So still trying to source that.

Once the slip yoke is sourced then custom length 35 spline cm axles are not a problem.

And a true 35 spline D50 will be born soon I hope. Question will be weather to stay with the smaller outer stub shafts as the weak link and fuse.

This seemed like the best place to get information like this because I havent found it elsewhere. I'm wondering, is this an achievable goal or not I would appreciate any feedback thank you go fast broncos.

It can be done but the pumpkin gets very close to the frame rail since the 70s frames are a little narrower. Someone has done it, I remember seeing photos once....

Maybe if I measured the clearances on my vehicle and then found the widest donor bronco I could, I could make it work

I thought you were referring to putting the TTB beams uner a 4x4 F100 frame. If you are doing a frame swap or front frame section swap ignore what I said.
