Philofab's 1986 Ford F250 "Phorged"
I picked up this 1986 Ford F250. It's currently 2wd with a cummins 6BT diesel, C6, gear vendor, and 4.11 Sterling rear. Some of you guys have seen it already.
The day I brought it home.
This was after a little clean up, parked in the pits at the 2011 Parker 425
Here is a chase rack I added.
Plans for it include 4wd conversion and a slightly larger tire. The biggest pain will be getting the adapters for the GV to attact to the T-case.

Nice looking ride. Could you use a 60-70s F250 divorced case after the GV, a Dana 24?

Philo,
Awesome... nice looking... can't wait to check it out in person... is the cummings transfer nice and clean/well done? Will you have to do much engine bay work?

It's ok. I need to move the transcooler so I can put a stock grill in it. All of the original wiring for the glow plugs is still there too... I have no need for that. There is only 2-3 hours of wiring work once I have some detailed schematics. The real gem in this one is that the interior is nice, not something common for a 25 year old truck in AZ.BajaF250 wrote:Philo,

I'm trying to stay away from older stuff like that as replacements will be hard to come by. I'd also end up with a 6 foot front drive line. I want to run a 208 or better yet, a 1356.johncharlesb wrote:Nice looking ride. Could you use a 60-70s F250 divorced case after the GV, a Dana 24?

For you photo junkies I stuffed some 285/75/16 Goodyear Silent Armors I got off Craigslist for $160 on it and got a replacement hub cap. I think I'm going to build a hybrid leaf spring pack for the rear with the old springs from Big Bertha, a Bronco pack, and an add a leaf set. I've also got some longer shackles so it will sit a bit more level. I can stand the stink bug look even though it's "period correct". Lol.

How dare you! What you need to do is add air shocks so you can stink bug it even more should the need ever arise.philofab wrote:I've also got some longer shackles so it will sit a bit more level. I can stand the stink bug look even though it's "period correct". Lol.

Why not lift the front a couple of inches, that would give some more ground clearance.

That will probably happen one I get a ball joint front end under it. It's currently kingpin so I would have to bend the beams for alignment.AusBroncodoc wrote:Why not lift the front a couple of inches, that would give some more ground clearance.

ahhh - it's got one of the odd ball, mid 80's diesel fronts. Un-equal length kingpin beams with 1" spindles and front steer. Similar to a Van front end - but different beams if I remember right.

Yeah - I got a set of those from a buddy not too long ago. I didn't know they existed before then. I guess that's what I get for trying to "ignore" the 80's trucks...

Got some parts for the 4x4 conversion... I need to get the hella $$$ adapters for the GV now and have a trans shop swap the output shaft and housing to my C6.

No, we all use the shop to store our junk. The van actually belongs to the shop. All the other stuff belongs to various people here.Joxracing wrote:Those all yours?philofab wrote:Thanks, I like the van too.Joxracing wrote:Those are some killer rides lurking behind you're chopped frame...

Re: Philofab's 1986 Ford F250 "Phorged"
I have looked at doing the same 4x converstion on an 83. I was told that I should replace the entire cross member because the one on the 4x4 is thicker than the 2x4. The shorter beams from the 3/4 ton front would cause the crossmember to flex and crack on the 2x4 cross member. Just wondering if you are going to keep the coils or swap in the leaves?
