Tony...good info and feedback, thanks. I honestly haven't felt anything "seat of the pants"-wise with the Bassanis as I probably haven't fully completed the OBDII drive cycle...where the computer has learned how to handle the headers. In due time I guess. 3" is a HUGE increase in primary Y-pipe diameter...but then again you have the 351w. I remember when I talked my Dad into putting true dual exhaust with "Turbo" mufflers on our family's '72 Buick Centurion Sedan with the 455 and 4bbl 'Quadratoilet' carb (back in '76 when "Turbo" mufflers were all the rage.) We upgraded the entire system to 2-1/4" pipe the entire way and that was probably more that enough. Oh, and it sounded awesome! I do like that Magnaflow
#93324 as it mimics the stock configuration (inline cats), but unfortunately retains the 2" primaries going from the headers to the first catalytic converter.

quite the departure from the stock configuration! Agreed...I'd have to install bungs in the downpipes, and another O2 bung after each of the two individual parallel cats. Not sure how that would work since I only have a single O2 sensor after my second inline cat. Do folks "Y" the two outlets back into one and then feed that to a single muffler? Hmmmm.

But the shop that does my emissions inspections (usually they never open the hood to perform a visual since it's OBDII, so they just hook up their computer to my OBD port) may say something about this type of change over...not sure. But hey, it still, "has two catalytic converters," right? It's just that they're parallel and not serial.

Yeah I actually "started" my pre-runner build probably back in '94...when I moved to Hollister, CA. I had numerous business trips to SoCal throughout the 90's, so I would fly down a day early and take my rental car out to various fab shops throughout Orange and LA counties and do my research (some real characters back then...and some real fly-by-night shops too.) But I learned a lot, and took copious notes (e.g., Lesson #1: Start with a Safety Cage.) But what I wasn't sure of was what platform I wanted to build on. Then I saw the Goodman Bronco prerunner about 10 years ago, and I was hooked. Seats 4, 4x4, long travel TTB options through Autofab, and they were plentiful. Done deal.
So yes, I purchased my Bronco XL 5.0 in 2008 (from a Utah realtor who kept it in great shape) right after attending the Off-Road Expo in Pomona. The fabrication started in May'ish of 2009 with my local Utah fabricators...and they finished the core build 10 months later in March of 2010. Since the, it's be a 'continuous improvement' cycle of refinement and upgrades to get it to where it is today.
Next mini-projects:
- Install the XLT gauge panel with the factory tachometer,
- Install my 'new' Saginaw P/S pump to replace the Ford C-III pump,
- Do a "Big 3" wiring upgrade,
- Have a mini center console built and install my Ham 2M/440 radio (Kenwood TM-V7A), my 10M/11M (CB) radio (RCI-2950), and some GlowShift MaxTow 'DoubleVision" gauges (Oil Pressure, H2O Temp, and Voltage,)
- Replace my crusty & cracked OEM chrome grill/headlight surrounds with some new aftermarket pieces painted white to match the body color
That should keep me busy for the next few years.
