Lots of parts stacking..
Engine is at mullinex racing engines..
Trans is at Culhane
I got a CBM stand alone harness, all ls6 accesories , and ls6 intake manifold.
Setrab coolers and a accusump.... Um bunch of little bits.
Still gotta figure out details on steering pressure-mating with ford box.
Ya doing this swap on the cheap could be done, but I can't leave well enough alone.

Anyone want a complete 351 for pennies? Lol

Keep the high pressure from the factory GM/Sag pump. Box will be ok with it and will feel good.

They drop right in. Throw on a camaro pan and make some motor mounts.
Really should have moved it back, but it fit so nice, I just left it in the stock location.

New here but read the forum for a long time.

For those of you doing the LSX/4L80 swap you might want to look at the 4L85 and the BW 4470.

4L85 is the factory beefed version of the 4L80. GM performance parts sells it as the "Supermatic", 5 pinion planetaries, factory hard shafts, etc. Wrecking yards don't know the difference you just need the right RPO#. Oh, it's MN8. Came behind some 8.1s. 100% full manual (zero elect connections) is available and cheaper than stand alone comps.

BW4470 bolts right to the 4L's with only the factory adapter. 3 piece case with a third mainshaft bearing in the middle. Internal pressurized lube, 1.5" wide chain same as the DHD 241's (Dodge snow plow option Cummins and V10 late 90's). 4470 was the heaviest GVW (12,000) rated tcase GM used until advent of Duramax. Found in SOME mid 90's k3500 duallys. Most had 4401s. MOT rating way above 205s and lighter too.

These and an LQ9 are sitting in my shop to be combined with a D50/44 hybrid in the next build.

Good info - thanks.

Have a buddy runing a 4L65 behind his LX so knew about those, but not the 85's.

Oh and your next project sounds like it should be pretty darn cool!

What do you guys know about the 6 speed GM boxes? 6L90 for example? Are they much longer than the 4 speeds?

First the 4l80-85 can be converted to a 5 or 6 speed. No mechanical changes just comp software. But no full mechanical setup.

I know very little about the 6L90 other than i read a few negative comments about it during my research on the 4L85. If I remember correctly it is substantially different than the T400/4L8- family.

The 6L80 and 6L90 were built to be electronically controlled. No bands and they require a fairly complicated controller.

Length of the 6L80 and 6L90 depend on application but they are approx 2-3" longer.

They mention that in the article.

Still pretty dang good power on a budget. Personally I'd go for a bit bigger displacement & keeping it NA, but it's nice to see what can be done with "minimal" cash & mods.

If I could afford the swap and fab, my dream motor would be a single turbo 4.9l with a custom cross flow head. There's supposed to be a way to make a crossflow head from a pair of ls1 heads. My first ford was a 5 speed single cab short bed with a 4.9l. Been pretty enamored by that motor ever since. Mate it up to a zf6 and appropriate to and let her rip.
