D28 to D35 compatibility

Post by cs_drums »

Any TTB experts want to confirm or deny a few questions for me?

Is d28 to d35 a direct swap?

Are the beam pivots etc the same?

Radius to beam mount spread the same?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not an "expert" by any means & it's been probably 10-12 years since I've messed with a Ranger or 'spoder but if I remember right things are a direct swap. Some rangers had d28 while others had d35 which is helps me believe this is true.

So if I put a rancho lift I have on w/ the d28 if I want to upgrade to d35 later it's just swapping beams out. Love it!

Yes. The D35 is a little wider but the pivot geometry is the same. My Explorer has the D35. The Autofab beam pivot brackets I'm using were originally designed for a D28 truck, but the geometry is the same, so they are now sold for the D35 kits.

It's been a couple of years since I've done one. I had to shorten the front driveshaft 1.5". I cut 1.5 inches out on the chopsaw, hose clamped the two halves into a piece of angle iron to keep it inline, and welded the halves back together. The driveshaft shop checked the balance and I headed down to Baja to prerun a race. I used 4WD alot and it held up fine for me.
