CHP Smog check point on Mountazuma Road going east to SDSU

Post by funinthesun95 »

Well I saw my first CHP mobile Smog check point on my lunch break last week. it was right next to campus......

-Road work ahead signs
-Then cones taking 2 lanes to one lane
-Then CHP officer
-Then a portable dyno and industrial fan in front of the car that was being dyno smog tested.

I love Cali

I love living dangerously ......we will see if I even get nailed at one of these.....finger crossed no

I wonder what happens if you roll through with AZ plates? They just waive you through?

That's crazy. All my nightmares are coming through here in commiefornia! I try & keep all my projects to pre-smog vehicles, but I'm sure they'll kill that soon enough too...

I wonder if they give any real visual inspection, or if it's just the sniffer in the field tests.

I was thinking in my bronco I could get nailed for wheels tires and cage windshield bars.......She would pass smog at this point....on the sniffer

along with visual I would be good until they look at my hood sticker as it does not match the MAF it is SD...... need to look at that I guess see what it says

Philo AZ plates maybe the next step if this becomes a common occurrence....but I am not driving the Bronco as a DD yet and this is the first one I have seen ever

I have heard about them tho

info when googled

Are they voluntary? That article seems to state both that they are and that they aren't.

I had also heard the roadside smog checks would be a "voluntary" thing. Glad to see that confirmed. Problem is with CHP doing them, most people will think they HAVE to comply & will comply.

My concern, IF I ever happen run into one of these things - and in a modified vehicle, is if I state I'm busy & don't have time to stop and let them conduct there testing, will the officer see a modified vehicle and think "he doesn't want to stop and has a highly modified vehicle, so he must be non compliant". And then what will the reprocussions be? Will he radio 1/2 mile down the road to a buddy & say look out for XXX truck, looks like he won't pass code, pull him over? Or can he state right then and there at the impromptu smog stop that he believes my vehicle is out of code & wants to check?

Just opens a big can of worms in my mind.

Well that sucks. There is a reason I have a 3/4 ton truck. I need the payload capacity.

Ya, The CHP had put up one of those smog check points on Sea World Drive last summer. I was driving the F350 Diesel, so they waved me on. My truck is smog legal as long as I reprogram the computer back to stock.

Back when I still had my V8 Ranger I had a dream that a CHP officer pulled me over and started inspecting my truck... popped me for no cats, called a tow truck.... I was bummed! Good thing it was just a dream!

Road side smog tests... only in CA!

What a waste of money and time. Let' remember we have mid-term elections coming soon. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often!
Vote against the Democrats.

My Mom was a lifetime Democrat and a few years ago She moved back to California and I was able to get through to her with common sense and now she would not vote for any Democrat. We will continue the fight to take back CA yet there are to many low information voters with out a clue. First step, vote out governor Moonbeam.
