Music...what do you listen to?

Post by Nick »

I've got rather eclectic tastes when it comes to music. I range from bluegrass, to country, to metal, and a bunch in between. I refuse to be subjected to rap music though, or hip hop, i won't do it!

Some of my favorite bands/artists.

Ricky Scaggs
John Lee Hooker
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Kenny Wayne Shepard
Garth Brooks
Hank Williams Junior
Dwight Yokum
Blues traveler
Crosby Stils and Nash
ZZ Top
.38 Special
Molly Hatchet
Black Label Society
The Bus Boys
Los Lobos
Black Sabbath
Judas Preist
Foghat
Metalica
Ac/Dc
The Cult
Def Leppard
Alice in chains
Foo Fighters
Rage Against the Machine
Red Hot Chili peppers
System of a down
Trapt
The Reverend Horton Heat

That's just to name a few... what do you guys like?

Live at the Roxy is one of my staples.

My musical tastes are all over the place. I tend to really enjoy the harder and darker stuff but I like and listen to everything. I'm all over the spectrum. I really wouldn't know where to start making a list so I'm just going to skim everyone else's lists, comment on the ones I like and throw in random stuff. I find keeping up with music too time consuming, so although there is a lot of newer stuff I like, I don't take the time to find out who it is and buy it.

Garth... I went to a concert in Fresburg with Kelci back in the day. He did the whole rising up out of the piano thing... pretty cool. I don't care who you are, he's got A LOT of damn good songs and he puts on an awesome show.

I'm a fan of most of the stuff toward the end of your list, Nick

The Gipsy Kings! Cool band. Their Hotel California kicks butt.

U2... I was SUPER into them growing up. I think I have all but their latest album. I think I'm done buying complete U2 albums. Their newer stuff is getting to be way too soft. Even now when they play their old stuff it's almost like another band... the emotion just isn't there any more. I miss the music they made when they were angry at the world and felt like their music could make a difference. Still, there is usually at least a song or two per album that I really like.
My favorite song of theirs? Probably Exit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJlqpV0A ... re=related. A close second is Walk On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqnN-9jAxkQ) when they played for the Tribute To Heroes fundraiser. They weren't the chees-tastic band we'd gotten used to seeing. Emotions were running high and they were the U2 from days of old. They have a few really dark songs that I'm drawn to.

Depech Mode has a few songs I really like.

Snoop Dogg? What's not to love? Snooooooooooo-ooop!

Black Eyed Peas. It's only been in the past few years that I've truly started to appreciate them. I started with Fergie (gotta love a chick that can do a one-handed cartwheel while singing and wearing skin-tight leather pants) and worked my way back. I really dig this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5a1zeLJyEs

A great recording other than Mariah not being able to shut her mouth.

A few random songs and bands I enjoy.

Babes in Toyland
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://popu ... ng5oPoLIpg

Kyuss-Green Machine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc-7FXzbeA0

White Zombie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPNFVj-pISU

It's funny, I've seen very few music videos. Sometimes I regret seeing them because seeing the dorks that make the music can really ruin it for you. The above was a close one.

Prong: Another video I wish I'd never seen. These guys looked way cooler in my head.

The Prodigy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_PAHbqq-o4

Primus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55CH_8YOBQc

Everything on Bad Religion's Against the Grain. The songs are so short and so similar that the album is like one huge kick-ass song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GUGSeaKJYc

I found this tonight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO7v6DST ... re=related I really dig good/different covers.

Operation Ivy-Lots of good stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVtG0J4k3O4

Rage Against the Machine (their politics are overboard but the music rocks.)

Fuck her gently... classic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=215pmeoUjcY

Pearl Jam... yeah, I like me some grunge too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ziGoJBLnRA

Pantera?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkFqg5wAuFk

Monster Magnet... one good song

Guantanamera
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKW4fosRmlU

Hotel Califas

I told you... I'm all over the place.

I have a soft spot for female singers. These are just the first few I came across on the iPod.

Norah Jones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHff55AeEAQ

Lilly Allen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZyTOROlo9E

Joan Osborne
Awesome song, great lyrics. One of my wife's roommates in college hated the song and said it was blasphemy...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZEO1Lug25s

She did a few good covers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJvmjDD ... L&index=46

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsUV4sEMs3o

Macy Gray-TONS of good songs. The wife and I saw her in concert. Very, very good show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJdh3oNa0bc

Does anyone NOT like Marvin? At minimum, you gotta admit the man could lay some tracks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKPoHgKcqag
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz6zPIhq1NM

Al Green
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COiIC3A0ROM

hmm, how to end for the night...

I grew up listening to Oldies with my parents... too much good stuff to list.

This one seems appropriate, though.

Yup, Pantera, Pearl jam, good stuff!

I'll somewhat revise my stance on rap. The Beastie boys are pretty cool, and the stuff that Anthrax and Public Enemy did together was good also.

I'm also a sucker for some of Beyonces stuff. Short story. I was working at the La coleseum, it was a warm spring day. They were setting up for an sc game for the following day, and doing sound check. It was lunch time, and i was sitting under a tree when they played this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygpAqaki_JA

My all time favorite is EVH's early stuff. Never get tired of it. Others:

Nirvana (nice easy riffs. Haha!)
Pearl Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers (lots of soul in their music)
Rage Against Government (Ha!)
Collective Soul (some)
Foo Fighters
Green Day
Bush

Cake (I likes me some cake) "Stick shifts and safety belts, bucket seats have all got to go. Cuz when I'm drivin' in my car, it makes my baby seem so far. I need you here with me, not way over in a bucket seat"

Third Eye Blind (...tell you what!)
3 Doors Down (some)
Stone Temple Pilots
Nickleback

And just about anything with kick ass guitar. There's a lot more, but I just don't get into it that much to remember. Haha!
