a great day in the dezert!
a great day in the dezert!
so before i hear a bunch of shit about not inviting anyone i just want to say i did not invite ANYONE so please don't get your feelings hurt.
my brother and i decided to take out the new race truck for a little fun on sunday and what an amazing day! since we were heading out to the dezert i also decided to take out he class 12 car i bought before we bought the 7s truck. conditions were perfect out there and things couldn't have gone better!
the 12 car was so fun i was grinning from ear to ear after the first 5 minutes and once i got used to not using my left foot to brake (since i kept hitting the clutch and saying "oh fuck no brakes"!) it was so smooth over some big bumps and it just drove very well, that car is really dialed in.
the 7s truck surprised the shit out of me! it handled everything i threw at it and more. my co-dog who has a lot of experience in the 7s class said that the pace we were running on our first day of driving was race pace. the crazy thing was the truck drove so well that it was almost effortless. the only thing that was super weird was the engine, it is like a 2-stroke without a clutch. you have to rev the piss out of it to make any power, so you literally have to drive into a turn with the throttle down and other foot hard on the brakes to stay in the powerband. the engine redlines at 8000 rpm and at around 7000 it sounds like a raped ape! i was truly blown away with the performance of this little ranger. and let me say that it only has 12" of travel, but boy is it set up just right, never hit the bumps on some really big whoops. i was going through start/finish at barstow wide open in 2nd and the truck was tracking straight as an arrow with one hand on the wheel, crazy!
here are a few videos from the weekend and i will post some pics later:

Re: a great day in the dezert!
the buggy was so smooooooooth it was kind of weird, but in a good way. it just took some really big hits and no bucking or anything crazy.
the engine in truck is an esslinger style 4 banger.
my brother and i have to talk about what we are going to do now, but i can't keep both!

Both were damn cool, but I'd keep the 12 car.
Strong, light, cheap. Pick two

As cool as the ranger is, it looks like the 12 car was smoother, and faster.

But, will either the 7s, or the 12 ever compare to this?
