Laser cutters / Water Jet or even CNC plasma - where to go

Post by ChaseTruck754 »

So with Erik Shallbetter no longer doing any cutting I am now possibly looking for a cheap, reliable and honest source to send drawings to so as to have parts cut. Erik was all 3, but I know I may not be able to find that all in one combo again, so will settle for 2 of the above mentioned 3 if I have to...

Who are you guys using for cutting that you like? Would not have to be local if they are cool enough to drop ship parts like Erik was!

Jet cutting solutions in Ontario, or us precision sheet metal in riverside are who I would try.

Trying local 1st but might get their info from you later. My last guy was in Minnesota and parts are shipped all over the US, so cutter location doesn't really matter a ton. Shipping is all USPS flat rate box anyway, so it's kind of a set price.

My buddy Reid does everything for Giant. Call Giant and ask Geoff for his number.

Thanks Will. I'd rather do laser due to kerf size, but if pricing is that much better I may go to a CNC plasma guy. Compiling info & people to call. Problem is lots of these guys want cad files to give a price quote & I don't really like releasing files, as some of these guys have no morals & keep them & try & also sell the parts. I'm hoping just not telling them what they are will keep that at bay a bit.

I'm sure you could get away with just giving dimensions per part for the quote. Creative is a pretty stand up shop. They cut a few things for me for free simply because i was at the shop helping work on my rig.

http://creativefabworks.com for contact info if you decide you want it.

Armada Engineering and talk to Igor or Elliot. Good guys and good work. If you talk to them tell them you're a friend of mine (they will charge double).

Microform Precision in Sacramento is who I use. One off stuff costs about the same as ten pieces for small parts and at 100 the price gets really nice. I get laser cut up to half inch thick from them. They will also bend for you.

Thanks guys.

Erik - you earned the kudos. Wish you hadn't quit (for selfish reasons), but definitely understand needing to move on.Good to know on the bending - thanks.

Moss, I forgot this stuff has a couple bends needed so thanks for mentioning that. I was used to Erik just doing it all so I forget some shops don't have that capacity as well. This stuff is 3/16 thick so nothing special there.

Talked to Bryin the owner of Creative last night when I picked up the jeep. He has access to a 2' by 3' water jet. In case none of these other contacts pan out
