I was once more part of the Autofab team and we ended up second in class. The Palapa Boy team got the well deserved first place trophy. As mentioned above there were issues with the oil pan that we believe was contacting the cross member. We used 4 gallons of oil to get to Bay of LA on the first day. JB Weld would not stick or could not deal with the flexing that was going on, we tried it. Racer Services welded it up in both Bay of LA and Loreto. It split open so bad on the second day that we put it on the trailer and took it straight to Loreto. The penalties for missing those sections put us too far back on time to get the win. We all agreed that 532 CID and all 8 cylinders is absolutely AWESOME! Dan and I had severe flashbacks of the Imperial Valley short course race in Bay of LA with sleeping bags full of sand. Rick needs to fill in the rest. Three of us cheated and flew back Thursday and Friday, I am hoping the rest of the team are crossing the border on their way north today. Thanks to all at Autofab for building one stout street legal truck. Huge thanks to John and Rick for inviting me again!

We talked to the crew chief (main prep guy maybe?) at The Office in Cabo. He said the tune was off which was causing backfiring. That backfiring eventually blew a hole in the side of the muffler. The hot gas from that burned through the aluminum side panel and caught the tool bag on fire. In that tool bag was an impact with a lithium ion battery. Once that battery caught it really took off. He said it would be rebuilt, but that have to test the hardness of all the tubes now.
My car is a hybrid; it burns gas and rubber.
