Epic Baja Adventure. Anyone up for it???

Post by Nick »

I've been following the DA's rip to the tip ride, and have seen several other guys that have gone on bikes down to the tip of Baja. Would any of you be interested in putting together a GFB trip down the peninsula? Do some exploring, see some of the lesser known sites, just have an adventure with a group of friends. This is something i'd really like to do!

Anyone else interested?

Check out the pics from this trip http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... 221&ref=mf

Nick,

Depending on the time of the year I'm 99% game unless something with work comes up. What time of the year are you thinking? How many days? Lets start throwing some ideas out there and lets really make this happen.

I invited my friend Craig from back east, he says that may would be a good time for him. We could plan this to coincide with next years 500, catch the start of the race, then keep heading to the tip. How does that sound?

Sounds fun - as long as LATE May works for your buddy since the 500 is usually the 1st or 2nd week of June.

And like Scott - I'm not pooping on anything either. I just don't belong to facebook so I can't even check the link.

Maybe Paul, or Chris would like to join us, and show us the finer points of baja?

Steve, he says he's taking the whole summer off, He's a teacher.

I agree with Chris, throwing down some dates now would be a good thing.

How about the week prior to the 500 Nick? I can't stay after the 500 unfortunately, daughters bday on the 6th of June, wife will have my head on a plate if I ditch that.

Suzy's b-day is May 30th - so that's a hard one for me to be gone for, but don't set dates around me as my getting days off of work is difficult. I usually can't tell until the week of an event as to whether or not I'll be able to go.

Yeah, Steve. I'm the head party-pooper here!

I think it would be an awesome trip. I would love to take the family and camp our way down and back up the beaches of Baja.

I would host such a trip based in SF October thru March. I sure have some interesting stuff near SF especially for the ones who have never done all the washes. (Figure 2-3 days for all the washes at a senic pace). However our San Ignacio to the East coast was pretty neat. We also made a leg to the west coast since we based that trip in SI. (3 or 4 days allowing some leasure time). Schedule to work around the races and marking which happens a month before each race. Lots of side trips are always fun.
Got tracks for dozens of trips that you can view on Trackmaker.

Thanks for that offer Paul! That is another definite possibility.

Anyone else want to throw up some dates?

What would you guys expect out of a trip like this? For me, it's not just about blasting down an open road, i'd like to see some of the towns/villages and see some of the early architecture, like some of the old churches. I'd like to see bay of la, explore some of the canyons and washes.
