I think we'll be renting a house just to the north of zoo road. I'll stop by and say hi if I see the bronco.gunit wrote:I am going down on Tuesday. I'll be staying at the Baja Palms hotel north of town near the Zoo rd. turn off, look me up.

Re: San Felipe Anyone going or racing
Haven't been for years and this is the one race I'd head back down for.
Just got a PM from a buddy who does some work for SCORE and he said he had an open seat - offered it up to me. I'm waiting on the details from him but I'm tempted to jump town and go. We'll see if I can get off work...

For the race I will be at RM56 at the road crossing. Easy access stop by.
I had the job of marking from 110 to the finish. Did the darn track 3 times. I also made the track o from Morelia south on both new tracks. Much more and still doing odd jobs. I will head for the finsih line at Ck1 close around 5PM.
If someone will tell me how I will provide the access road .USR files. Of course they cannot be opened and have to be saved to your computer then transferred to your GPS.

Re: San Felipe Anyone going or racing
Looks like racing fell trough we had the truck up at my buddies shop this weekend, the truck is unsafe. They are still going to drive it but they have to be crazy to do so. The best part is the owner drive thinks its all ok.
Why the truck is unsafe.
The radiator is where the back window would be that's not a problem but the hoses are facing into the cab, and run open unshielded, unsecured through the cab with the top radiator hose right above the co drivers seat. When the hoses run through the fire wall there are no grommets or anything protecting the hose from the sharp sheet metal.
The batteries are unsecured in the cab, in one of those plastic marine boxes, With every wire running to the battery, no fuse block or circuit breakers. Plastic kragen switches with no relays. The battery switch doesn't turn off the batteries. Melted connectors and wires. I found a wire nut being used as a connector.
The fuel cell bladder is ready to fall out of the bottom of the fuel cell. His race tires have a big plug in the sidewall.
The list goes on and on I'm thinking about calling SCORE so they double check this truck.( this truck has passed SCORE tech before, in my eyes makes SCORE look bad) if something were to happen it would not just physically hurt him it could hurt the sport.

Wow! That's a shame. It always amazes me how many racers are incompetent when it comes to the mechanics of safety. Smart move Wil. Nobody wants to be hit over the head by a flying battery after they've been scalded by boiling antifreeze and electrocuted.

I'm out for this one too. My buddy who invited me is leaving Wednesday and I couldn't get 2.5 days off work with that short of a notice. Looks like I might be headed to the 500 with him though. 1st mexico race in 4 or so years - I'm excited!

Wow, sorry to hear that Will. In a violent roll that battery would be in your lap covered in gas from the bad cell. Hopefully the scalding coolant would at least put the fire out.
What was the response, when you told them you weren't going?
Know how excited you were to go racing, but better safe than sorry.

Re: San Felipe Anyone going or racing
Telling him I'm not going today. The thing is if something does happen, it will turn into a new rule you have to have your cooling system inspected for 250 bucks. These types of vehicles give desert racing a bad name. Like in the BFG, wide Open Offraod show that was on speed or whatever it was saying that everything is junk except TT, Class 1 and Baja Challenge cars.
